Bamako, Mali - An enraged hippopotamus killed a teenager and caused panic in several villages in the northern part of Mali, located along the bank of River Niger, the Malian Press Agency (AMAP) reported Monday.
The victim, aged 16, was playing on the river bank along with another youth from one of the villages, when a female hippopotamus suddenly appeared from the river, a few metres from them.
The animal, which had remained immersed in the river for a long time, suddenly attacked the two teenagers, according to an eyewitness.
The animal seized the victim by the leg and dragged him deeper into the river. He died a few minutes later from his injuries.
Residents of the villages said the hippopotamus was enraged because it had just lost its new-born offspring.
Thats right. They have been observed biting a 14 foot crocodile in half.
Holy cow! I thought the most dangerous (deadly) animals in Africa were (in order):
Mosquito
Cape Buffalo
Hippo
Nile Croc
Hyena
Lion.
Guess I'll have to call up some of my clients that are SCI members.
Hungry Hungry Hippo
Luckily it wasn’t a RINO.
The real reason Kenyans win all those marathons.
That hippo chased that got for like a mile before he narrowly escaped. Deadly bastards.
Can easily outrun a human.
Hope he made it.
Factoid: Hippos kill more people in Africa every year than do crocodiles.
That is one brave person.
really?
would you let it around you newborn baby unattended?
All those teeth to chew grass? I understand that when the jaws close, the tusks grind against each other sharpening them automatically.
I understand that the word “hippopotamus” is used by stage actors when they are standing together, and wish to make noises that sound like conversations.
Just another fun fact to know and tell.
Have you ever seen a hippo mark its territory? Don’t be near it when that happens. Whoa!
Ding,Ding,we have a winner!
I’ve been “on safari” in Africa.I also *love* African wildlife documentaries (they’re the reason why I went HD).While in Africa it was made clear to us that hippos are *very* dangerous. And the same is made clear in those documentaries too.Don’t know if it’s widely understood by those who *live* there though.
That aint a hippo..that’s a slutto.
