Smith ; Producer/ Director - Jack Johnstone ; Musical Supervisor - Amerigo Marino & Carl Fortina ; Announcer - Dan Cubberly ; Expense Account Total = $517.20 ; Colorful New Orleans, the French Quarter, a beautiful girl, high adventure - from the night life in the Latin Quarter to the dismal, deadly swamps. Antique shop owner Henry Dupar has had fire damage but he refuses to accept the insurance he is entitled to. Dollar learns that Dupar's secretary, Rose Ellen, has been missing since the fire, and that Dupar has mysteriously been banking lots of money in recent months. Johnny uncovers a narcotics smuggling operation in banana shipments and attempted murder. CBS Radio Network, two commercials for the Ground Observer Corps .

A professional hangman named Henry Maples comes to town with his own portable gallows. Simple minded Boog Wilson becomes his loyal friend...and shoots Doc! Chester releases Boog Wilson from jail, but Boog does not want to leave. Wilson enjoys staying in prison. He gets fed regularly and likes the company of Matt and Chester. Boog is "kinda like a tumbleweed" wandering about here and there. He was run off by his father and most people run him off after a while. When hangman Henry Maples arrives in town with his gallows being pulled by three oxen, Boog attaches himself to the self-proclaimed lawman. He helps Maples settle his gallows outside of Dodge, where Maples plans to hang the deserving scum of the lawless city.

He drops in to see Bessie Chadfield, a grey haired librarian on Huron Street, at 10:00 PM closing time. Bessie flicks the lights to let the only patron know that it is closing time, and the patron goes into a panic. The patron had been reading reference books on psychology. Randy starts to walk Bessie home when they see the same man break a storefront window and reach in. Randy runs after him and finds that the library patron had stolen a gun. The patron's name is Tom Morrison and he wants to kill George Brewster. Randy goes to 612 N. Hamblin, Morrison's residence. Morrison says that Brewster is trying to destroy him with the strangest weapon of all - the night. Morrison is fearful of the night. Brewster has been ridiculing Morrison, driving him crazy. Randy goes to see Brewster who lives with his sister, Julie, in Lake Forest area. Julie Brewster, who did not fear the darkness was blind.
