That stat doesnt surprise me. Last year, in an effort to make him omniscient, they showed a clip of his grading Tom Brady. It said “he is a big, strong, physically gifted athlete from a top tier school who throws a catchable ball.”
What a load, that statement is filled with more weasel words than a CBS newscast.
Big/Strong/Physically Gifted - just look at his height/weight/season stats.
Top tier school - Michigan is definitely a top 10 NFL factory (pre-Rodriguez), so theres nothing new in that part.
Throws a catchable ball - I doubt two people could define this the same way. Warner throws a catchable ball, Manning throws a catchable ball, Favre throws a catchable ball. I think Mel meant he has more touch than a Favre style, but the phrase he used grates on me when some idiot genious ESPN dolt uses it.
Basically, he was taking credit for knowing Brady was a stud, when all he said is he is tall, has good stats, went to a good school, and his receivers got the ball. The same thing could have been said for Oklahoma’s Jason White. I really dont think Mel watches tape of non-1st round players.
Michigan? I went to Appalachian State. Michigan is alright There just not in our league anymore.
Nice one. Does App State have anything to replace losing their stars from the past 2 years? From what Ive seen, their coach is pretty successful. I kind of feel sorry for Armanti Edwards. Doesnt look like QB is in his NFL future. But, if Clausen is as good as advertised, Edwards could do nice in the slot.
But yeah, when Brady was QB’ing there, the NFL was loaded with Michigan Offensive talent. Jansen, Runyan, Brady, Griese, Toomer, and so many more. I really like the UM duo for the Dolphins.
And Im a Texas Tech alum, but Big 10 OL seem to be studs in the NFL.
they are loaded. they only lost 4 starters from last year. They brought in 4 300 plus lb. linemans, a 25 year old tight end (he served 2 tours in Iraq). The QB will be between a redshirt freshman and a rising JR. The redshirt I’ve heard is awesome.
His coke also. Isnt he an admitted coke head?
That sounds good. I love these smaller schools who get older players, especially ex military or ex pro baseball. I think they have a hunger and desire that is hard to match because they will probably not make the next level. They know this is it, so they give it all. Plus, they understand how to be adults while they are playing.
The two I most remember are Casey, the TE at Rice and Crawford, the DE at Ball State.
Casey didnt make it as a baseball player, so he came back to play at Rice. He did end up getting drafted by the Texans, but he was all heart and energy. In 1 game, he played QB, TE, WR, DE, and LB. How many blue chippers would do that?
As for Crawford, he was a Marine and didnt start college until he was 29 I believe. How amazing is it that you can serve, and then come back and become a starter on a college football team.
Another guy, Ahmard Hall of Texas, was a Marine who served in Afghanistan, and then tried to walk on at UT. The school had a policy that you could not be more than I think 36 months from college, or you couldnt walk on. Mack Brown said “He served his country, Im not gonna punish him for that” and let him play. He ended up winning a title and now plays FB for the Titans.
Good luck in the SoCon.
That would explain why he was holding a straw near the left field foul line.
