Dashboard video from a January traffic stop in Hamilton that ended in gunfire. A jury ruled on April 13, 2010 that Hamilton Police Officer Ross Jessop was justified in shooting Raymond Thane Davis.

Thank God that first shot failed, for whatever reason...and for the verdict.
I’m not a big fan of cops. In this case, the cop was spot-on justified and I am very happy he was not hurt. The perpetrator is currently at the correct temperature he deserves to be.
I counted. That was a 15 round clip the cop put into the car. Good stance, outstanding reaction, excellent shooting and all around clear headedness.
I too am critical of law enforcement. Not this one. Officer was just doing his job. Glad he got this guy, he obviously had a screw loose and/or a checkered past.
Like many others, I saw the headline and thought ‘here we go again’. But the cop did a great job...
There’s always independent review by a grand jury when an officer shoots someone. So that it can’t be claimed government (DA, courts, etc) are in collusion together on the shooting and just covering for the officer.
It’s checks and balances by the citizenry. Something great about our country, not something to say we don’t need.
I’m sure there would be those that will argue those points. I just am impressed with his reaction and fairly decent shooting technique. I would like to know how many hits were scored. Overall, I’m sure he could be criticized for small tactical errors, but no way was he wrong in shooting the dirt bag.
I wondered how long it would be before someone would post that remark.
When police do something wrong, it should be pointed out and they should be punished. Being a cop should not be a get out of jail free card and cops should be held to a higher standard.
When we criticize police, it is for cause, not just because they put on a uniform.
Well,"cause" is subjective.
I have seen few subjects posted on here at FR that have a more widespread difference of opinion then when a cop is being charged with abuse/brutality or other similar inappropriate behavior. It surprises me that so many here are so strongly anti cop.
I know I differ on this, in some respects, as my wife has a very low opinion of cops, which matches much of what I have seen here at FR. (NOT referring to you, but just in general)
Well, there are 3 good reasons to dislike police:
1. A bad experience (or perceived bad experience) with a police officer
2. The person has, is, or will be doing something they think is wrong/illegal and that person is subconsciously or consciously projecting their guilt as hate towards police
3. A person’s parents would taunt them, when they were a young child, that “If you don’t behave the police officer will take you away to jail!”
A healthy dislike of your government and it’s officials is fine....people just need to remember that 1 uniform isn’t all uniforms nor is 1 law enforcement agency the same as all law enforcement agencies.
Notice how at the end of the video there is bight flash in the distance? Looks like the perp crashed into a power pole probably due to multiple GSW.
January 2 at 1:09 a.m., Hamilton Police Officers responded to a criminal mischief complaint concerning Davis. Two officers contacted Davis in regards to this complaint and determined there were no grounds for a citation at that time. The officers noted that Davis appeared to be intoxicated and advised him not to drive.
January 2, at 1:55 a.m., Hamilton Police Officer Ross Jessop stopped a vehicle known to be driven by Raymond “Thane” Davis because of a traffic violation at the intersection of Highway 93 and Adirondac.
Officer Jessop turned on his flashing lights signaling Davis to pull over. Davis pulled his car over. Officer Jessop got out of his car, approached Davis’ vehicle, and began talking with Davis. Davis pulled a gun and fired at the officer, Officer Jessop returned fire and hit Davis; Davis then sped east on Fairgrounds Road. Davis’ vehicle collided with a utility box and a building at the Ravalli County Road Shop. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis is a registered violent offender with a lengthy criminal history.

HAMILTON – Raymond “Thane” Davis was born Sept. 17, 1973. He was given freedom from his earthly cares on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010.
Thane had a great love of the outdoors. Whether it was camping, hiking or fishing you could find him there enjoying Montana’s big sky country. One of his favorite places in the summer was jumping off the Corvallis Bridge and swimming in his beloved river.
His passion was hitching horse hair and Western arts. He loved old country music and Ford Mustangs; they were “his car.”
Thane was a big teddy bear who had a heart of gold. He would give anyone that was down and out a second chance. When Thane came back to the valley after a long absence, he found not everyone was as forgiving as he was. The last year of his life was filled with ups and downs. Immense joys and deep, deep sorrows. He is now happy forever in the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ, who he knew without a doubt, would always forgive him.
Well, here's hoping he asked forgiveness between the time he pulled the trigger and the time the bullet found him.
There is a link to the article on the side of the video page. It states the officer fired 14 shots total with one going through the driver’s seat and hitting the POS in the back, killing him by the time they pulled him out of the wreckage.
It also states how after the shoot-out the officer went, got his patrol rifle, and went to the wreck to make sure the threat was eliminated.
I would call that a perfect ending and perfect example of a worst case patrol scenario where the officer reacted perfectly and didn’t wet himself and let himself be killed like so many red-diaper-doper-baby liberals would.
The POS was a multiple felony offender who shouldn’t have been out of prison to begin with. But RDDB liberal policies allowed him out on the street and he almost killed a police officer.
