I use an Acer laptop here at school with XP . Every day before I go home I set the computer to stand-by so when I come in morning I don't have to wait for the computer to boot . Well , for the past two mornings , when I pushed the power button nothing happened . The power lights were on but the computer would not come on . Had to re-boot both times in order to get the computer on . Any idea of what the problem might be ? The computer " whizzes " here at my school in Japan haven't a clue ) . Any help appreciated !
Oh, btw, screen savers tend to screw with standby mode... Try shutting your SS off...
Screen savers are and have been off . Thanks to you and all other Freepers who have posted advice / help .
ccleaner may help.
Other than that you have a hard drive issue or and error of mother board.
try spybot and see what comes up.
let me know if you need help with it.
Have a boss at work that was always putting her computer into standby instead of locking it... needed to walk to the printer, she would put it in standby, and then it would freak out when she got back. Gets to the point during the day where she can’t do anything without a reboot.
Not very green of this vice principal to have computers consuming power all night...
