SpikeTV AK47 vs. AR15 Vanity
April 18, 2010 | Me

Informal poll: SpikeTV is showing a Deadliest Warrior rerun. It has the Taliban vs. IRA. The IRA is testing the AR15 against the Taliban with the AK47. I vote for the AK47. I would like to know what you think.

Yeah, I update regularly. I might have gotten it to play but I just dumped it and played the youtube instead.

I was disappointed in the test. Hip firing at a wall 75 feet away doesn’t test much. He could have at least put some sillouettes out at 600-500-400-300-200-100 yards and seen how many rounds each rifle scored.

THAT is the stuff I couldn’t remember! Nanolube! I haven’t seen any around here yet either... but I’ll try it if I can find it! I think Dillon Precision has it in stock, and IF they do, the very next time I order something from them, I’ll pick some up! :-)

I don’t usually watch posted videos either, but the one I put up is humorously applicable, and just funny! Gunny is a hoot! :-)

I wonder what is up with the video I posted?! SORRY about that Trav!

Hey Toad... you say it played O.K. on your PC? I honestly didn't try it on a Windows system... it worked O.K. on my Linux system.

Have you seen the Lock-N-Load episode about cannons? That's a good one too. :-)

Well... I gotta return to the candy store to pick up my newest buy... since they carried the Militech they should have Nanolube there too, and I'll pick some up to put on the shelf for future evaluation...

I saw it on youtube, it was linked down thread.

Can’t understand why they didn’t bother to compare aimed accuracy at longer ranges.

It was fun, I just wish they had included accuracy.

Seemed to me that Gunny likes the AK for simplicity sake but liked the AR for accuracy and shootability. (Is that a word?)

Controllability maybe. Accuracy wasn’t tested. Full auto against a wall 50 feet away is not a test of accuracy.

I thought they would posit a hypothetical where a troop with an AK meets a troop with an AR about 400 yards apart.

THAT would be interesting. Just shoot at sillouettes offhand at 400 yards. One mag each, semi-auto.

You realize this was a total gag and not even a remotely serious attempt at comparing the two? Anyone who has shot the two knows that a good AR shoots 1-2 MOA and the AK shoots MOB, Minute of Barn.

I guess I don’t watch enough Gunny to know when he’s running a gag.

That’s what I love about the guy...he’s usually running a gag. He loves shooting guns and that’s about it.

It was VERY unscientific! :-) I just thought it was funny. :-) If only the debate was as easily solved as R. Lee Ermey makes it! :-)

Soon though, me and some AK shooters are going to shoot. We'll try to be just a little more scientific. I try hard not to take sides on the classic "AR vs AK" debate, because it's too much like splitting hairs and performs no useful function except to make us all indignant with each other.

I DO think it will be interesting though at the shoot. My daughter has an Armalite SPR and nobody in the house here can out-shoot her except with one of the scoped bolt guns.

Recently however, we went shooting and somebody with another AR gave her a run for her money! He had an Armalite A-2/HBAR that he shoots national match 600 yard competition with and he's an EXPERIENCED shooter. At 100 yards, him and her shot clothes pins OFF the metal rods we were using as target holders. When those were gone, they shot the rods ("about" 3/8" in diameter). Nobody really "won", but it was funny to watch! :-) They RUINED my target rods! :-)

I'll try to keep you guys in the loop on how it goes. :-)

Reminds me of an old Beverly Hillbillies episode where Uncle Jed and Ellie May were driving nails in a tree about 300 yards off in their back yard. With black powder.

Yeah... I saw that one! It took me a couple of minutes to realize that the kids that day were chipping away at the clothespins, and then they started cutting up my metal poles! They had a good time and we all had a good laugh over it! I DID have to scrounge up some more poles though. :-)

Or as I put it at the end of my last book, “without a doubt those Marines could hit individual buttons on their uniforms.”
