hell I don’t know...here’s a list of dogs who are more often cropped...many like schnauzers, boxers, Great Danes, Doberman pinschers and miniature pinschers are not known as fighters....btw....I have seen pits uncropped

btw...my ABD has neither cropped ears or docked tail

no doubt that some ear cropping may be for fighting or formerly ratting in tunnels etc but some today is just asthetic standard

male Dobies look like crap with floppy ears in my opinion...Great Danes too...bitches I don’t think it matters...very few bitches look like full standard anyhow....males win Westminster 2 to 1

There is only one reason to crop the tail(called a DOCKED TAIL). it was done to avoid taxes. In england a working dog was immune to taxation but had to have it’s tail chopped off in exchange for tax exemption. ie the tail was the payment. The procedure stuck for certain breeds and was carried over to america. eventually the tail tax was abolished but the procedure was maintained because people got used to seeing certain breeds without tails and expected them to look that way.

As for ears...big floppy ears are a byproduct of domesticating wolves and wild dogs into domestic dogs. The big floppy ears are really an undesireable side effect. People figured out they could make the ears stand up if they trimmed part of them off...ie reduce the weight of the ear.

there are certain times when it makes sense to eliminate the ear entirely...fighting dogs for example. But these are minimal exceptions.
