The leech was discovered in a girl's nose in Peru.
Whoa, sheesh. I've never seen a leech like this. Peru, like the rest of South America, is home to some weirdo creatures.

Groin leeches to be precise.

They have a flatworm that lives in the Amazon river that likes to swim up your urethra (especially if you pee in the water) live in your bladder and hatch young in your urine, hoping you will go swimming and pee in some other body of water.

Brings to mind the Science Fiction collection of short stories published in the late 60's. Harlan Ellison was the editor of
Dangerous Visions. His foundation for the huge collection was that he would never reject a story. He asked the best authors around to publish the story they always wanted to write but knew nobody would dare publish it.
Dangerous Visions was a great success, and was soon followed by DV2.
In Ellison's intro to DV3, he confessed that he actually rejected a story for the collection. It was a tale of an alien vampire, much like the legendary vampires of earth except the fangs were on the lower jaw and pointed up. The creature would hide in dark alleys, grab his victim, shove his fangs up the poor victim's nostrils, and suck the snot out of his head.
Ellison said he knows he promised to never reject a story, but he just couldn't leave a tale of a snot vampire in his book.
