They should work on cat hearing as well. My cats can hear a can open from any point in the house no matter how much noise is occurring in the house at that given moment. When the can opens, the cats are instantly lined up, waiting for their portion of whatever is in the can.
It's like they're thinking, "Could be food...don't risk not knowing!"
