Word is about the only thing I like from MSFT so I'm simpatico with your wife on the issue :-)

Was it hardware issues or software issues with the Mac? It's very strange the battery should die in a year. I have a MacBook Pro from 2006 still running on the original battery without any issues.

The battery dying didn’t make me happy.

Most of it was usability issues. They are personal preferences. When my wife uses the computer, she does not want to know where files are, she does not want to just do something herself instead of letting the computer do it. I want to open directories, drag, drop and copy without the computer getting in my way.

When things are working right, the Mac was pleasant to use. When something didn’t work, it was like trying to put something together using directions written in Chinese while the computer is actively hiding pieces.
