Hell, I got my Dobermann pup when he was 5 1/2 weeks old and slept with him cuddled against my stomach.
If he so much as whimpered or moved in his sleep, my eyes snapped open instantly to check if he was okay and *I* didn’t even have all those “maternal instincts”/hormonal drives because he wasn’t actually my “baby”.
This story absolutely reeks of ‘something not yet known’.
