Estefans' new collaboration hits sour note (Obama Sellout angers Cuban-Americans)

If Gloria Estefan decides to sing a tune while hosting President Barack Obama at her home Thursday, she may want to consider her 1989 hit Cuts Both Ways.

'Cause you and I are dangerous

We want too much and life ain't that way

Don't ask for more

Don't be a fool

Haven't we already broken every rule

The Estefans may have broken more than a rule when they decided to host a cocktail reception for the president during his visit to South Florida on Thursday. Estefan, along with husband Emilio, also broke a bond that had united them with Miami's Cuban community, whose members largely oppose the president's agenda.

Yup-My Cuban Father-in-law is like a fortune teller. This is a repeat of the 50s for him. Very sad.

Many of us, no matter what ethnicity, have parents, grandparents or other relatives who came here to escape communist rule and bring up their families in freedom. Democrats are intent on dismantlng all vestiges of anything and everything that has made our country great for so very long. Will it be long before they find the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell offensive?

I have been to grassroots meeting(s) and this issue has been discussed. Cuban-Americans and others are really, really ticked off about these two supporting the Communist-in-Chief.

Protests and boycotts are in the works.

Many of my friends have done the same. All their CD’s in the garbage. I didn’t have any because I can’t stand her singing. As far as I’m concerned she has no talent.

What makes me really mad is the fact that they left Communist Cuba, get here and make their fortune thanks to capitalism and then support a Communist.

Thank God. I hope, truly, that the Cuban-American community rejects them out of hand. Boo them the next time they pretend to care about freedom...I am SICK AND TIRED of people who ought to KNOW better turning their backs on liberty.

And marching with a white hanky doesn’t make up for collaborating with the most anti-constitutional occupant of the White House we’ve ever endured.

what do we intend to do about it ?

Listen to even more talk radio, continue to attend tea parties, continue to not patronize businesses, entertainers or any form of media promoting government takeover of our freedoms and educate liberals whenever possible.

Most everyone I know is already on the right page and planning to vote the liberty-takers, tax-increasers and Constitution shredders out of office.

What are YOU doing about it?

Yep, I remember the days of the Miami Sound Machine. Those days were different, I think. They use to play with other people that were very talented. Remember Mercy, the other singer?. She was very talented. The band sounded good. They were grassroots. Times have certainly changed.

Gays usually have lousy taste in music. Estefan, Madonna, the old Donna Summer stuff (though I Feel Love produced by Giorgio Moroder was good) and maybe some of the Pet Shop boys stuff was okay. Lots of disco crap or Judy Garland. LOL!

Estefan sucks and her voice, like Madonna’s, is weak.

The same and hopefully more if we get the numbers. I think that civil unrest will be the way of the future. Sit ins ,boycotts and aggressive protest are needed as well as educating those who are too dumb to see whats going on .

I'm finding some liberals are so fully entrenched in habit, they wouldn't dream of switching channels and watching Fox News instead of CNN and NBC. They don't want anyone to change their routine, thus will never comprehend they are getting their minds programmed. Many are older middle class people set in their ways and the only change they want is what Obama promises them. Only when Obama picks their pockets will they awaken from their stupor.

It's akin to a second civil war in the country now - red state conservative/Constitutional voters vs. blue state liberal/socialists.

My idea of torture would be listening repeatedly to Estafan singing "the music is gonna get you....." IMHO it should have been worded "the music is gonna get to you....."

I am afraid it will get ugly. Real ugly. Obama would have been impossible 20 years ago and Reagan would be impossible today. Our nation has already transformed. Real shame. It would be so nice if they would only listen to reason and not their guilt or self loathing.

This is most distressing. I teach, and my school uses a reading series that has a theme called "Heroes." Gloria Estefan is the topic of one of the stories (the others being MLK and Lou Gehrig). The story is about her life, how her family escaped Cuber, how her dad served in 'Nam, and how she took care of her siblings while going to school. The story goes on to discuss the MSM, how it formed, her marriage to Emilio, and all that. It's aimed at Hispanic girls, and if it inspires them to stay in school and overcome circumstances, I'm ok with that.

All that being said, it's not a recent series. To know that the Estefans have basically turned their back on the country that took them in from Mr. Busywhiskers and his tyranny kind of diminishes the whole "Hero" thing the reader tries to present. Estefan had an ok voice, and one of her solo discs had one or two songs that refer to God, so I was hoping that they were at least good Catholics. Too bad. I'll have to find something else to augment the story with besides an mtv or two with Miami Sound Machine. Anyone know of some singers who are REAL heroes, and who haven't forgotten their roots, or their purpose?

As a sidebar, one of the supplemental stories was about Mark McGuire and his home run record. A few of my kids who go to an extra reading program came back and told me that their teacher in the other class had a good laugh, and remarked, "Hero? The dude took steroids!" Damn. Another story I have to replace!!
