Robinson: Ignoring our slaveholding past
Austin American Statesman ^ | 4.14.2010 | Eugene Robinson

Posted on 04/14/2010 11:44:40 AM PDT by wolfcreek

It was bad enough when Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell proclaimed "Confederate History Month" without mentioning slavery, but at least he came to his senses and apologized. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour's contention that the whole controversy "doesn't amount to diddly" is much worse.

"I don't know what you would say about slavery," Barbour told CNN, "but anybody that thinks that you have to explain to people that slavery is a bad thing, I think that goes without saying."

Man, Civil War/slavery are really popular subjects these days.

Wonder why?

I never owned a slave, have you ever been a slave Eugene?

Why don’t you go to Africa/Arabia and free the slaves that still exist?

The only cotton the author ever picked was out of an aspirin bottle. He really needs to grow up and move on.

Eugene and his Kenyan brother are scared that America has moved on from slavery, and no longer view black Americans as victims.

Rev Wright proved to the world that bigotry, racism, and discrimination lies with the left utterly and completely.

Dear Mr Eugene Robinson,

You seem to effortlessly ignore the past also. Republicans abolished slavery, abolished the Jim Crow Laws, and drew up the final draft of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and got it passed against the will of the Democratic Congress.

And guess who supported slavery, created the Jim Crow Laws, and formed the KKK? That’s right, the Democrats.

You are a very conflicted man. But I guess that welfare plantation the Democrats built for you is just too nice to say no to.

Have a nice day...

I have picked cotton but that one summer was more than enough to show me I did not want to do that any more. I am disgusted with these people who did not know anyone who was a slave. I know that the people in my FTM data base did not have any. They were too poor and were just trying to make a living. Why are they acting like dork fish?

The Kenyan has no problem with enslaving the workers who produce - in order to enslave the souls of the the non-workers.

Today’s “slave holders” are the race hustles who pretend to be fighting on behalf of blacks.

Robinson, Sharpton, Jackson, Martin, Obama, etc.

They make money off keeping black people down and addicted to a life of grievance.

I wish ONE opponent would make that point to face of one of these fools.

Shuuush, no ones supposed to know about that, and even if they still do it, you have to be accepting of their “culture” and “celebrate their diversity”.

I wonder how much of it was Propaganda by the North and perhaps a few individuals in the South that the Civil War was all about slavery?

As far as reading the history, I learned that the Civil War was really not about slavery but about whether the Federal Government had the right to tell the States what to do! That was the real issue in those days! Slavery was a relativity minor issue and it was about to end in a few years.

And now look at us — The Gigantic Federal Government telling the States what they can do or cannot do!

The ONLY reason it is an issue is because CNN/DEMOCRAPOS perceived some comment as something they can hold against Republicans.

Then they work themselves into a self-righteous lather forgetting that it was DEMOCRAPS who always opposed civil rights, until Republicans (including Lincoln) ensured those rights.

I don’t know if the FedGov/Lincoln wanted war back then but, it sure seems like the FedGov/Obama wants it now.

Americans, rather than focusing on a “slave-holding past,” would do better to take a look at their baby-killing present.

Another 4000 or more were slaughtered just today by cruel and unusual means.

That dog don’t hunt. My great, great, grandfather didn’t own slaves nor any of his ancestors.

GET OVER IT. PULL YOUR PANTS UP, and GET A JOB.

Hey, Eugene, the descendants of slaves in America are the most prosperous black people on earth.

I however have actually picked cotton. Great Uncle thought it would be a great character building exercise. It was hot, uncomfortable and mind numbingly boring work. Made me greatly appreciate gas powered, oil drinking, machinery.

Let us end this horror as it exists today! Let us invade Africa and free the slaves that labor there now? No one is talking about how slavery has comeback. Lets refocus—not on awful deeds done in 1860 but things being done in 2010.
