RIVERSIDE, Calif., April 12 (UPI) -- A California animal control officer said she captured the "Monster of Lake Evans," a 15-foot Burmese python apparently abandoned by its owner.
Riverside County Animal Control Officer Kristina Hillegart said she responded Friday to a report of a huge snake at Lake Evans in Riverside's Fairmont Park and discovered the 60-pound reptile near the bank of the lake, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Monday.
Hillegart, who nicknamed the snake the "Monster of Lake Evans," said the snake did not put up too much resistance and was easily lured into the back of her vehicle.
She said the snake, believed to be a pet abandoned when it became too large for its owner to handle, is being cared for by animal control employees and will be given to a rescue organization specializing in exotic pets if a new home can't be found.
Albino. They are very beautiful.
However, the owners that ‘abandon’ them when they get too large should be publicly beaten with 2x4’s.
Riiiiight. Fear monger. Your ignorance is howing.
Yet more ignorance. Funny to find it here on FR.
Where I grew up most of the snakes are copperheads, water moccasins, rattle snakes and a few coral snakes, all poisonous. Is it any wonder I hate snakes?
Barf! Just the thought of it makes me vomit.
All venomous. Slight difference, but there you go. None of those animals are ‘malicious’. They will try pretty hard to get away from you and bite in defense. Obviously you are not prey, therefore you are a predator. And so, by your attitude, you do in fact, justify their bite response.
They have a place, same as any other. They do not deserve hate. A healthy respect will do much more.
Yeah I am against regulating people’s choices in general but some things require a deep wallet if you are going to get it as a pet.
Not to mention the attention or the fear that it will disappear into the woods and you will be legally responsible for its actions.
