One for Amy: Lefty claims his third green jacket
Yahoo News ^ | 4/12/10 | PAUL NEWBERR

AUGUSTA, Ga. – As Phil Mickelson strolled up to the 18th green, his third green jacket locked up, he wondered if his wife would be waiting for him. She'd been there the first two times he won the Masters, but he would've understood if she decided to skip this victory celebration.

Yet there she was, waiting with an embrace they'll remember for a lifetime.

"I normally don't shed tears over wins," Mickelson said, his eyes watering. "When Amy and I hugged off 18, that was a very emotional moment for us. I'll cherish every moment of this week."

Eleven months ago, Amy Mickelson was diagnosed with breast cancer. While the prognosis is good, she's worn down physically. It's tough to get out among the crowds at a place such as Augusta National.

"She didn't feel well and she doesn't have energy," her husband said. "To have her here and share this moment and share the joy of winning on 18, and to share this with my kids, is something that we'll look back on the rest of our lives."

So, a tournament that started with the focus on a guy who committed serial adultery, ended with a victory celebration that was much more family friendly.

The rest of the tour is catching up to Tiger. He doesn’t scare the competition nearly as much as he used to.

Good. Did he spit in any cups, (intentionally) scrape up any greens with his putter, or blame his poor performance on bad food or small clubhouse lockers?

Humbly stated before the beginning of the Masters (blaming his putting): “I think it's been a solid season so far. I wouldn't say it's been extraordinary, mainly because I haven't putted well. To have won once here in the U.S., had quite a lot of top-10s and be performing quite well in the majors, and being 190th or something like that in putting ... still a pretty good effort.”

Especially with Elin getting on a jet to fly out of town before Tiger got home last night.

You go, girl!

Maybe after watching the tearful honest loving embrace between Phil and Amy, it dawned on her Tiger can never give her the love and respect ANY woman deserves from her husband.

Tiger should be single to fool around all he wants.

That’s true in spite of what they want us to believe out there in that deviant world. God bless them both.

It was a PR disaster for Tiger to come back this quickly.

Arrogant mind set my friend...arrogant mind set.

Fine play by a great player. The greatness of Augusta is that a swashbuckler like Mickleson can win there, but so can a course manager like Nick Faldo.

It was a PR disaster to be in a commercial with his dead father. But, that’s what happens when Nike owns a big chunk of your soul.

Tiger got big ovations at Augusta. Golf fans don’t care who he screws, they care about the quality of his shots. I’m more interested in what he was doing with his steroid doctor than with his sluts.

Does it really matter what Tiger does or says....he is now the bad guy....doesn’t deserve it but “it is what it is”.

The local sports radio personalities have it in for Mickelson. They compare him to “Scooter” from the golfing comedy movie with Adam Sandler. They say that he is a complete phony and they call him “teats”(different word) Mickleson. I barely paid attention, but looked to watch the man. The few times I watched him and looked for confirmation of this opinion, the opposite seemed to be true. I finally just figured out that they hate him because he holds a mirror up, and they hate themselves. It is the same with anyone that tries to live a clean life, speaks well of religion, or opposes gays or atheist outlooks. I will never know Mr Mickelson personally, but from what I see, I respect. It means nothing to either he or anyone else reading this, but he seems pretty genuine to me.

Contrast Tiger to 16 year old Matteo Manassero at The Masters and at The British Open aka The Open. The kid had just turned 16 at The Open! He made the cut, played two rounds with Watson. Total young gentleman while Tiger missed the cut and was throwing clubs abd swearing.

Matteo making the cut at The Masters at 16 is insane. He was a humble proper young gentleman while Tiger was sulking after he finish like a spoiled brat.

And Phil? What can you say? Lee Westwood too. These guys bring honor to golf.

Go away Tiger.

I forgot who posted that he or she thought Tiger was a Buddhist, yet then he heard Tiger called to Jesus for help.

Oh that must have been the video people were talking about. It didn’t sound very respectful and of course, I didn’t look for it or even think of watching anything anymore that has Tiger Woods in it much less Nike. So, he used his deceased father??? How disgraceful on his part. But...speaks to his lack of morality number one and then his character.
I guess those who cheered Tiger on don’t much care about anything or anyone. As for his women he was with being called sluts...that’s their problem. However, what does that make Tiger Woods?????? What tag do we put on him? Pervert? Sex Addict? Power hungry? Cheater? I wonder.

Either way... Tiger Woods is done and over. If he had won this match I think his supporters (who would have supported him anyway) would have made a difference and he would have become the darling of the course again. Now...he not only lost but TIED for fourth place. They can say what they want to say but...this will be his downfall. I don’t think he will EVER be able to come back again like he was. But...they say there is a consequence for all our choices. This is no doubt... his.

But...Tiger aside. Mickelson is the joy of the day. Good son, husband, father, friend, man and living his life the way he is supposed to live it by loving his family and doing what is not only expected but doing it because it is right and he loves his family. Good for him. And..since everyone was so happy about it and impressed by it ...I think it is a sign our country maybe turning back to God, family, Country and teaching our children the right ways to live on a daily basis. I’m sure the Mickelson girls are so worried yet proud of their mom battling cancer and their grandmother battling cancer and the courage both have in handling it all. Then their dad showing the world what a real man should be and how a real man truly does behave normally but how he behaves in the face of crisis. Phil Mickelson has passed all these tests. God bless the Micklesons’

The Post-Masters activity was even more telling. Tiger sulking and saying he may take more time off - this was a dig at the PGA because he knows the slimy PGA want the TV ratings he brings.

Contrast with Phil, his family, Amy and his caddy in tears. Contrast Lee Westwood’s caddy hugging Phil. Contrast Lee Westwood who’s career had fallen apart. Lee, who is playing oncredible golf know, was philisophiocal and said he had fallen to #250th in the world and had come back. Westwood was incredibly gracious.

Contrast 16 year old Matteo Manassero making the cut at The Masters which no one has ever done and he was a total gentleman.

Tiger disgraces golf.

Watching Phil Hugging his wife for 5 minutes was GREAT.

She looks a lot like Elin and i would love to have seen the look on Cheetah’s face when he watched it.

No. Are you Tim Finchem (PGA head stooge)? Golf existed long before Tiger and will long after he is gone. Tiger is a disgrace.

Even tho all of the golfers appear extremely focussed, they all seem to be having fun. Except Tiger. He just looks angry and it doesn’t look like he enjoys playing.
