what a cool memory that is, of something you did together.
Speaking of hen parties, when my ex and I were married, he played poker one Friday night a month with a group of guys from the nearby neighborhoods in the ‘burbs, and the wives would gather at one of our homes and play hearts, or just drink a few beers, listen to music and be silly.
One evening when the women’s gathering was at my house, the wife of the guy hosting the poker party called her husband to ask him to be sure that their kids had finished cleaning up their rooms. He assured her that they already had done so, and asked her if we were enjoying our hen party. She said “hen party-if this is a hen party, then what is it you guys are having?” He didn’t have an answer, so she held up the phone, turned to the rest of us and said “ladies-if this is a hen party, what are the guys having?” We all chimed in-a dog party, bull party, rooster party, etc. One woman said that it was a cock party-but no problem-usually a small party and doesn’t last very long. We were all in the doghouse for that one for awhile...
That was a holdover from when MrT5 and I were both married to our first spouses-we took turns reading aloud with our kids and spouses on stormy evenings-sometimes the Bible, sometimes other books. My daughter, Ex and I read to each other from Ray Bradbury’s “The Halloween Tree” every October and “Dandelion Wine” every Spring until she was in her second year of college. I think it is a wonderful thing for families to do-if I ever take another man for a partner, that will be a requirement.
