It is difficult to stay ahead of bad journalism... the author of the article(s) about this incident repeatedly used language that elicited an emotional response from the reader that takes further examination to realize is not the situation. I frequently fall for their tactic.

But, one of my pet peeves is the idea that we immediately accuse a parent of neglect for doing things that we ourselves have done. My response to these stories, many times, is “there, but by the Grace of God, go I, (or could have went).

Your kids should count themselves lucky to have “normally vigilant” supervision where some “risk” might occur.

Sitting on the front porch with my dog, watching a mountain because I was not allowed to go ~anywhere~ outside the yard or totally uninhabited woods behind my house unchaperoned and unfortunately, my boy friend was working that whole day.

Totally worthless. They should all be put down and more counties and states should ban them. I refused to rent one of our rental homes to a couple that had one. We accept pets, but Pit Bull, hell no. They had 2 kids too. I told them they should have that dog put down and no they were not suitable tenants with that dog.
