"Think of his reality as one strand of string that is being wiggled.
Think of normal reality as a second string being wiggled next to it.
... what happens when all possible realities coincide and synchronize?
Easy. You quickly become much better at chess.

I’ve been meaning to teach Pat to play chess. Better get a book.

What do the census takers know about families? I mean, up close and personal?
James, James and the tomato snake James should never be subjected to a census. As for Pat, he’ll be available for a census whenever he chooses to slink back into our world. For now, he doesn’t count. *groan*
The Elusive Bill could be anywhere. When one reaches the age of 16, one tends to be rather “different.”

When catz get on the keyboard, the word is “I DIDN’T DO IT!!”

Census takers are probably mainly normal folks who need a job. However, the designers of the census are dopes who can’t figure out that if Persons 1 and 2 are the natural parents of Persons 3 through 8, then Persons 3 through 8 must all have the same race or ethnicity.
And babies don’t usually live in nursing homes or jails, even on April 1. “No, he’s a baby ... he was here.”

He could better learn on a computer. That’s how my grandsons learned, and one of them is a local champion in his age group.
There are quite a few chess sites. Pat could RULE!!!

I’ll have to search. Tom can experiment and then help Pat.

FYI: I learned to play “at” chess at the tender age of 14, but not having a set of my own, I was hampered when I tried to play with someone who knew more than I did.
When I married Igor, he insisted I play with him. So for nine years, I played chess with him. For nine years I lost every game. Then one day....we played and I won. He was so astonished he said, “I don’t believe it! You couldn’t have won!”
So we played another. I won it. He said, “That was FLUKE! Let’s play again!”
So we did. And bless my soul, I won that game as well. His response? “You cheated! It’s the only way you could have won this game!!”
He never factored in the idea that in all of those nine years, I was watching and learning. He never again asked me to play chess.

"He never factored in the idea that in all of those nine years, I was watching and learning. He never again asked me to play chess." I'll play chess with you. It won't bother me if you win.
I always learned more from people who were better at the game than I was.
Of course, you must realize that to me, it is not merely a game.
This, madame, is war. (The civilized kind of war, where refreshments can be served.)
