Weird stuff seems to go with major comets. When a comet appeared in A.D. 60, the people of Rome assumed it meant the impending death of their still new emperor, Nero. He responded by exiling a potential rival. When another comet turned up just 4 years later, ancient historians say he ordered the execution of dozens of nobles. It is said that Moctezuma II saw a comet in 1517 that foreshadowed the downfall of Aztec empire. In 1910, a wave of hysteria swept over the United States amid reports that Earth was about to pass through Halley's tail.

If you have pizza for lunch, well, it should be hot, unless it’s leftover. Then it has to be cold. It’s Pizza Rule #1.

I always heat up leftover pizza. I know, it’s evil ...

We either have thunder going on, or passing dump trucks. If Elusive Bill ever gets out of the shower, I’m going to take some offspring to the hardware store to buy plant stakes and more cilantro seeds.

You sure that isn’t the Black Helicopters, again?
Yesterday, my neighbor gave me a flag that she felt was too large for where she had it, so I hung it off the eave this morning.
I need to go over when she wakes up and ask for some of the potting soil I gave her since I just transplanted one of my little palms. I have four house plants that are, believe it or not, not dying!! One I’ve had for six months and the rest are about a month each behind the last one.
I’ve been working out on the Gazelle every morning for about 10 minutes, but haven’t built up any speed, yet, so I’m still around 3/4 of a mile in distance, and about 100 calories burned for each.

Good for you! I have Frank-chasing for my exercise ;-).

Turned out to be thunder, because now we have lightning, pouring rain, and power-flickers. I can go shopping later!

No wind today or yesterday. I think it will be in the 90’s today. :o]

Right now, it’s about 66 and sunny.

Harry Reid will be speaking at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Boulder City this morning, along with Dina Titus. *blech*

We really need to get him out of office. I just KNOW he’s going to make today all about himself.

At least it didn’t blow over the cornstalks this time, but the pepper plant is leaning again. When Frank gets up from his nap, I’ll go to the hardware store.

I’m going to get my hair cut this week. It’s annoying me.

DP said when he was shopping at Sam’s earlier, they made him push the cart, rather than Tom, because it had a bottle of wine in it.

Jeeze. Like Tom is going to run out the door with the cart, right?

I plan to get my hair trimmed this week, too, as it’s too long for the waves to show. I was hoping I could do it Friday, but I have to go to Boulder City to get the truck serviced. Thursday, my cleaning woman comes in, so that morning is totally wasted. Maybe Ralph will get the truck done in a hurry on Friday, so I can get to the salon by 0900 or shortly after.

Wednesday is a doctor’s appointment...at least it’s early enough to have me home again by 0800!!

I think I’m going to the doctor on Wednesday, too - prescreening for a potential colonoscopy. They don’t think I’m old enough.

No one is “old enough” but it pays to be sure that one is taking care of one’s self the best one can.

It’s been almost a year since I’ve seen the doctor, and he won’t renew my prescription until I see him. *sigh*

Seaman Anoreth Memorial Day ping! Anoreth demonstrates what she learned about debate during her tenure on FR!

*************

We're back in Indonesia. I plan to go do stuff in a while. What, I'm not sure. Go shopping again maybe? We did small boat races with the Navy yesterday. We won, even after giving them a ten-second start. You don't have to mention that to Grandad [my father, a retired Navy officer]. Kind of embarrassing. Then we sat around arguing about philosophy for most of the night. Then we argued some more this morning.

The main discussion was about free will and predestination. I behaved and mostly stayed out of it, except for occasionally prodding people to fully clarify their points, plus explaining that free will does not translate to 'total lack of responsibility for your actions.' Then I asked about who Cousins thought was predetermining everything. He said it was nature, because he's atheist. Then I got everyone sidetracked by saying that Cousins was saying that nature was a god, which he was even though he said he wasn't. I suggested that God might predetermine things, but he didn't seem to care for that idea and kept insisting it was something called 'nature.' However, since I didn't start arguing for or against the main point, I stayed out of the main argument.

They didn't come to any decision except for saying that me and Cousins are way too libertarian for them. This is true, even though I did say that I believed in free will. Cousins doesn't. This took up most of the evening and morning anyway, so it wasn't a total waste of time.

*snort*

If Cousins doesn’t believe in free will, who forced him to join the Coasties? ( :o] An argument that could go back several generations with Supreme logic.)

“Nature.” His DNA programmed him to be a Coastguardsman.

BWA-HA-HA-HA!!!
Using the same logic, then, I guess “Nature” programmed him to be an idiot. Ahhhh! The possibilities are endless!!

Just repeating what he learned in public school. Anoreth will have him reprogrammed by the time the cruise is over ;-). I’m pretty sure Cousins is one of the guys she drags along with her on expeditions (also Stephenson and Hovel), so he’ll pay attention just to impress her.

LOL!
She may help him avoid the Scarecrow Syndrome! Way to go, Anoreth!!

There’s a lot to be said for growing up in Utah. We were not given liberal books to learn from, so most of us grew up to be responsible conservatives. Or responsible. Or conservative. Some kids I grew up with were bound to listen to their own music, of course, but I’m so grateful that I was taught logic and reason.

A guy who is bright enough to get into the Coast Guard will respond to logical argument (especially from a cute girl who likes guns) eventually!

Anoreth reads history and philosophy and logic and religion and all kinds of stuff. She has a lot to bring to an argument. Bill isn’t as intense a reader, but he listens to talk radio and is starting to get the idea about using evidence and not just assertions.

The Elusive Bill may be even moreso when he goes out into the world. Imagine what he could do as an honest attorney...(this is where the mind boggles!)

Tom will be the attorney - Bill wants to manage a resort in place with a nice climate.

Still raining steadily. Looks like our supper will get wet. At least it’s easier to use a gas grill in the rain than a real-fire one.

Ash enjoyed all the fat from the pork. She’s totally lost interest in dog food. Anoreth will be mad when she sees how spoiled Ash is!
