Remember the “Girls Can Fly” 13-year-old from Half Moon Bay 7 years ago?
The press trumpted her to high heavens.
She crashed and died.
I fear that this is not going to end well. What kind of parents think a 13 year old possesses the reasoning to understand the hazards of trying to climb Everest?
the same kind of parents that Jessica Dubroff had... she was the 7-year old who died when the plane she was piloting crashed in Wyoming back in 1996... i remember her mother saying something like, “she died doing what she loved.” oh—she loved crashing in a storm?
She was exactly the person I thought of too. Parents who use their children to achieve some kind of greatness through them.
Wow, that was the first thing I thought of, too.
Contrary to popular belief, this girl is not the only child to get a pilots license. Most of them didn’t crash. The legal age used to be 12. Most teenagers who earned licenses at that age lived to be old people. One incident does not add up to the whole.
Katie Couric had her on the Today Show the morning before she died.
