Yeah, he always seemed shady to me, too.
He actually stuck me as the kind of father who would look at Monchichi and say “Look, you perform and do it RIGHT, or you KNOW what is gonna happen!” (I think the dad looked the “type” of a wife/child batterer....thats my story, and Im stickin to it! ;-)
