A song that’s been done an awfully lot is not going to sound original unless the singer has the ability to play around with the melody without losing their place. Christine Aguilera is the best singer I can think of at playing around with a melody. Lee didn’t do that but he was on the right track and not on qualuudes like everyone else was.

My voice has been changing lately, too. Suddenly there is a vibrato sneaking in where I never had one. I’ve been singing a lot more this year, as well. Definitely more confidence in how I sing. I would love to sing professionally. Not for big bucks, but for the enjoyment.

Lee DeWyze

Connick: My wife thinks he's cute. He looks like a new and improved version of me.

Lee's song is "That's Life".

Yeah! They saved the best for last. (I bet some of the air is leaking out of Big Mike's balloon watching this). Lee and Harry are nailing this. Harry is playing organ instead of piano. It all works. Very, very good.

Randy: Another great arrangement! You stayed your rocker self. I loved it! I loved it!

Ellen: At first I was distracted by Harry's organ. (ha ha ha) I think if this was the last night of performances, I think you would have won this whole thing.

Kara: Do you think you can win? You better go home tonight and write "I can win this thing" a hundred times.

Simon: Harry you've been absolutely great tonight working with the contestants. Very generous. (to Lee) You have some issues with shyness. Harry brought out your personality. You gave it a 110%. By far, it was the best performance of the night.

Is Simon right, Steve and Eydie?

No point trying to predict the Bottom Three. We all know who was the worst tonight.

I guess my criticism is that the Ray Charles version of “That’s Life” is much, much more well known from the 70’s on than Sinatra’s and Lee just did an imitation of Ray (a good one, mind you). Lee didn’t change the song style at all from the changes Ray did.

Hey, it worked and Lee has some good talent. But he skated tonight.

I love to sing. It's hard work. I can spot someone with an artist's soul or just going through the motions. A true artist will never compromise on their art or sing without passion. I write music too, arrange music and I'm shooting and directing a video this weekend. It's fun to shoot a video but it takes ten takes and thank God, I don't do the editing. I shoot all the raw footage. Anyway, I'm voting for me tonight and for Lee for the very first time.

Poor Frank, Tina and Nancy, Frank, Jr.

The grenade was in Aaron’s pocket, but Casey grabbed it and swallowed it. And it ain’t gonna be a “The Mask” belch...

Don’t know why, but Lee’s voice always sounds off to me - like he’s flat, even when he technically isn’t. Maybe it’s just me. :-/

Sing at your American Legion halls, etc. Just learn how to pick good songs cuz I find that I can really love a song but I simply cannot do it. There are plenty more! Saving vibrato for ends of phrases is fine. Experimenting with vibrato is fine. Casey just didn’t know what to do cuz Blue Skies should never be sung that slow. I think they’re trying to get rid of Casey cuz Blue Skies isn’t hard and Rod Stewart sang it too. So did Willie Nelson! The tempo killed Casey. Casey didn’t kill Casey. He wasn’t experienced enough IMO to say, wait, wait, wait, let’s speed that up a bunch. I would have put in for faster. Casey didn’t demand it. You have to be pushy-persuasive to get what you want in life. Freepers know that on the political threads.

Lee’s got a gravelly quality in his voice. It’s not a pure tone but it’s not off key usually.

What he does is flatten his tone — if you picture singing a note and then compressing your throat a little to take the edge off of both the upper and lower parts of the note cycle.

It works for some songs since it provides a sense of control — the notes stay where they belong for the duration of the phrase.

But to some ears, it sounds like a truly flat pitch. It also runs the risk of tapering off and down at the end of each note.

Fla Voter — it sounds like you do this as more than a hobby. Do you agree with my analysis?

Oh boy. Say something nice...say something nice...umm...that’s a nice wig Nancy has on.

But it was a nice wig ;)

How much age difference is there between Nancy and Tina. Tina looked pretty good.

If you're not afraid of germs, nursing homes and assisted living places have social directors. They love to book singers. Now there's no standing O but many seniors in nursing homes are pretty together.

Ken heard my big anonymous community choir in April. I think he liked it. Next day, I got my tooth pulled and I've been on Advil ever since. Hope it stops hurting sometime this week.
