How to make a Penny Can Stove
Survival Digest ^ | 4/3/10

Posted on 04/03/2010 6:19:20 PM PDT by mylife

I just thought this was neat. I made one in about 10 minutes using a different design.

I made mine about the size of a skoal can and it will burn for about 40 min. Boils 2 cups of water in about 5 min.

I dont think the RTV is necessary if you get a good interference fit.

Marines know how to improvise and adapt.

In infantry school we actually had classes about improvising weapons for when everybody is out of ammo, complete with tales from Vietnam. One of my favorites was wiring up piles of rough-edged, but sharp, c-rat can lids using the wires that came around c-rat cases. Swing that weapon the right way and you can cut somebody up.

Methonal just burns hotter.

Do not stray from the alcohol based fuels.

We don’t need any kabooms.

Those stoves work great. And they’re lightweight and inexpensive to operate. Coke cans work better than Pepsi cans, though.

What’s wrong with actual campfires? - I’ve found you can make them from materials actually found at the campsite and they require no preparation or tin cans. The only thing I carry around to cook by campfire - matches.

Well, as I mentioned up post, wood isn’t available at high altitudes.

This is a small fuel source.

I prefer a crackling fire.
