I just thought this was neat. I made one in about 10 minutes using a different design.
I made mine about the size of a skoal can and it will burn for about 40 min. Boils 2 cups of water in about 5 min.
I dont think the RTV is necessary if you get a good interference fit.

Ladakh.
I mentioned Kashmir because people know where that is.

I am using an aluminum aircraft rivet on the fill hole instead of a penny ☺

You wouldn't really serve me for dinner, would you?
DO NOT use anything except alcohol.
You can use isopropyl alcohol or methanol (wood alcohol)
You can get isopropyl at the pharmacy. Anything 70% or above should work fine.
You could also use grain alcohol in a pinch (vodka, rum, etc.), but since you have to pay tax on that, it’s expensive.
These sorts of things are neat. There are some very nice commercially available compact alcohol stoves also out there.
This poster hasn’t yet used one, wondering exactly what type of alcohol is used for one of these? Is isopropyl rubbing alcohol an option? What percentage is needed to make it work? Will the 50% alcohol solutions work? 70%
Or is some other form needed?
Probably basic questions, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t know that.
Thanks in advance.
Those SVEA are imho the absolute coolest-looking pack stoves in history.
Maybe not the most practical, but they sure look nice. :)
I am using 70% Isopropyl rubbing alcohol.
Seems to work fine.
Thanks.
I vote for more outdoor gear-head threads like this. :)
Add some beef jerky and you have a nice meal
Was just thinking the same thing, nice photo. Still arguably the best hiking /mountaineering stove. A little noisy. The only ones I use are the older style w/ out the cleaning needle inside the nozzle. The machined tolerances on the flame adjustment are much tighter, finer threads or something, so it can be throttled back real good. In the photo the key is angled downward, that’s the earlier, pre 70s version or whenever SVEA made the change.
My Brother lives there, well in Goa to the south.
He will be my guide.
We will ride Royal Enfields
We will load the bikes on train to Dehli
