It is fairly easy going from the Pacific to the Atlantic since the current is in that direction. What is hard is going from the Atlantic to the Pacific against the current. This current is roughly 8 or 9 miles per hour.
When I traveled from east to west on the Triton we had difficulty maintaining depth doing 15-18 kts. The day we did it the weather was supposedly calm.
