Based on some of their other predictions, I think you are right about that.
Maybe we should start a separate thread about the kinds of things useful to have (or ability to produce) in a barter economy.
Based on post-nuclear war science fiction stories I read when I was young, and my own calculations, here is a starter list:
Guns and ammo
Fishing poles Boots, and bulk leather to make mocassins and clothing
Tobacco (LOTS of it, even if you don't smoke yourself)
Antibiotics, bandages, reams of cotton and linen, medical manuals and home remedey books
CB radios
Thermal clothing and blankets, blankets, blankets!
Blades of all kinds - knives, axes, wedges, razors, scissors, etc.
Needles and thread, especially big needles and tough thread
Soap
Nylon tarps
Rope of all sizes, nylon preferred
Thermal sleeping bags
Dried beans, rice, peas, and SALT, lots of salt.
Sugar and whole grain flour in sealed containers, yeast, sourdough starter
Vitamins, especially vitamin C
Large cooking utensils, esp. big pots, dutch ovens
All the hammers, nails, chisels and mallets you can lay your hands on!
Seeds and hoes, shovels, buckets, barrels, burlap bags
Books, especially the classics, starting with the Bible
Acoustic musical instruments, for entertainment and inspiration. (Cable TV will NOT be available)
More guns and ammo
In addition, you need a safe, accessible but remote place to store all these items. Ideally, a large plot of arable land with bunkers, and a group of like-minded survivalists who pledge to defend that plot of ground with their lives.
If you have lots of the above and the ability to protect them from ravaging hordes, you can trade for most anything else you need.
