TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – Nineopus. Novopus. Freak of nature. Whatever you want to call it, the nine-legged octopus probably had a leg up on all the other creatures in the Gulf of Mexico — until it was caught and found its way to Hellas Bakery and Restaurant in Florida.

Head Chef Emmanuel Psomas says he was steaming the octopus Thursday when he discovered that it seemed, well, leggier than normal. Psomas says he's cooked octopus for 40 years — it's a Greek delicacy — and has never seen one with an extra leg.

He says he counted the legs three times in disbelief.

Wow, heading back home this weekend for the holiday, the Sponge Docks are just a few miles down the road so this article pretty much sealed the deal. Gotta get some charbroiled octopus - topped with olive oil, lemon, oregano, and garlic. Hellas is good, but the charbroiled stuff at Mama's a few blocks a way is even better!

If you ever have grilled octopus, you will never want fried calamari again. Octopus is way far better than squid, and grilled beats fried every time. Grilled octopus vs fried calamari? Not even close, no contest.

Octopus rules.

Brings to mind “IT Came From Beneath The Sea”:

Ever budget-conscious, producer Katzman allowed Ray Harryhausen only enough money to animate six of the octopus’ arms and two were removed. Thus, Harryhausen jokingly dubbed the creature a “hextapus”...

I couldn’t agree more. I like squid, especially in Thai food;
calamari’s good, but like anything fried, the fried breading dominates the flavor.

Octopus is really good. Sashimi/Sushi octopus to good, but charbroiled octopus really showcases the flavor!
