Hey MEG, another Thread, about the Polio Vaccine, Reminded me of this story!
Polio Shot Story!
It was 1956 and I was 4 years old. I hated needles and My Eight Months Pregnant Mom took me to the Public Health Building in a Foot of Snow in Boston to get the SECOND in a series of FIVE Polio Shots that were administered By The City. As soon as I saw what was in store :NEEDLES!!!, I broke away from Mom and dashed across the street, scrambling over snowbanks into oncoming traffic, and ducked into a "Men's Barroom".
Mom, chased after me, Hugely Pregnant, dodging traffic, and found me in the tavern, cowering under a table. She dragged me, kicking and screaming, all the way back through the snow, and I was again placed in line to receice THE NEEDLE.
The Public Health Nurse Then Started Yelling at My Mom to keep me quiet!
My sister was born prematurely THAT NIGHT.

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!
Sgt. Ronald A. Kubik, USA, KIA Afghanistan 23APR2010
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
God Of Our Fathers
Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace! We who remain hold you in high honor. Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct; We who remain keep this place sacred. Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades; We who remain keep the watch. Rest, fallen brother, among these who answered the Nations call; We who remain press the fight forward in your name. Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden; We who remain have taken up the torch. Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!

Great story, ML! Along those lines, I was a Polio Pioneer in 1954 in First Grade.
