Silvie can always nick Sarah’s vocal cord with her Ginsu and that will take the squeak out.

Next Silvie can work on that accent or her habit of dropping g’s.

Would you rather listen to Shrillary Clinton?

I love it when Silvie drops her g's.

Bothers the hell out of me. When she was in Searchlight last weekend I could hardly take it. Voice coach and a good sound engineer are in order.

Sorry Rich you are wrong. Running for President these days is about 50% American Idol. If you do not come across well on TV you will not be President. Main reason Duncan Hunter could not get traction. He comes off as the weird old uncle on TV.

Although it shouldn’t matter, I think it’s probably a major reason many claim she isn’t “qualified.” I don’t think these critics even realize it. Krauthammer comes to mind.

Palin’s voice doesn’t have the hypnotic depth that echoes in the tympanic membranes of Obama worshippers as they teeter and swoon in ecstasy.

TLM, If you read post #19 you might find that authenticity and a principled message are enhanced by refined speaking skills. Any woman with a high-pitched voice is going to have trouble on the campaign trail. That’s just a simple fact.

If Sarah Palin can get some good coaching and improve her delivery, what’s wrong with that? Doesn’t make her message any less authentic or principled, but does make it more effective.

Agree and she is aware of this and working on it. I read several months ago that she asked friends of her in Alaska radio/tv if she needed a voice coach back before being elected governor. In fact, there was a ny times article by Robert? Draper during the 2008 election that discussed a woman voice coach brought in by the McCain campaign for Palin at the outset. So she's aware and I think she's improving in some areas(during interviews she seems to be trying to talk in a lower tone and specifically during her appearance on Conan and Jay Leno she seemed to be consciously keeping her voice from rising and I thought she did well) but when she gets a little excited(Searchlight) her voice rises. But I thought her speech at the teaparty event in Nashville was pitch perfect and her 10 minute question/answer afterward was splendid, as did the WaPo's David Broder and as did ALL the liberal blogs and the BHO WH which is the reason they went overboard with their exaggerated response to her hand notes in order to distract from her performance.

Her voice doesn’t bother me, it is her run-on sentences that bother me. But that is the ONLY thing about her that bothers me.

It is also worth noting that both the liberal and Republican elites associate accents with “stupidity.” That is why they pegged Dubya as stupid with his Texas accent, and now Sarah with her Alaskan accent.

The irony is that elitism is by its very nature supreme ignorance.

It's not just her voice, it's her delivery as well. I think she needs elocution lessons. It seems to me she often doesn't pause after one sentence before starting another, kinda joins one sentence to the next.
Her delivery, effectiveness and gravitas would be much enhanced with some good elocution lessons. Way I see it, if she wants to run(and even if she doesn't), she will need to get the independents to her side, and better speech delivery will go a long way to help. Plus it would help her on her TV programs that she is doing right now. Unfortunately we are a society where form counts as well as substance.

When she does sit-down interviews, she's much better, although the high-pitch comes and goes there too. I was prepping dinner last night with FNC on, and they showed her at the McCain event. Her voice was so loud and unleveled that I almost cut my pinky finger with my Ginsu knife while cutting a tomato... I got a chill going up my shoulders. It's strange...

Her voice does what any voice does when speaking in public in a way that requires a higher volume than conversational speech. If she were miked and amplified so that she sounded entirely conversational in such a venue, it would end up sounding just as weird. Regardless of the nature of her vocal characteristics, she never, ever sounds as weird and grating as Hillary Rodham Clinton, "Ah ain't nowheres tarred. I've cum too farrrrrrrrrrr."
