Usually best to take a direct order from a police officer to stop doing something seriously. Not saying you stop . . . but be prepared to take it all the way, court, accusations of abuse of authority and the like if you decide to ignore the cop.

Monessen police said Daniels was taunting a police dog in the back of a police cruiser and kept barking at the animal after an officer told him to stop. I wonder if he would've seen the same charge if he'd been waving a donut at the officer in the squad car instead of barking.

The best way for the officer to handle this was to realize that the guy is a nut and mentally coo-coo; then get in his cruiser and drive away. Case over and tax dollars saved.
