I’ve seen #4 buckshot recommended instead of 00 for home defense, it’s supposed to limit overpenetration while still being effective. Birdshot won’t have enough penetration against a heavily dressed or fat/muscular adversary, except at very close range.
not for nothing but a shotgun for defense is for up close and personal, messy but gets the job done
