New York City Tea Party, Tax Day 2010
first hand account | April 16, 2010 | Winged Pegasus
Posted on April 16, 2010 9:25:14 AM PDT by WINGED PEGASUS

The electricity crackled on a warm night in New York City as a crowd of approximately two thousand crowded eighth avenue around New York’s central post office. The stage was set on thirtieth street and the activities began on schedule at seven P.M. Although attendance was down from the fifteen thousand Tea Party Activist gathered in city hall park last tax day, the energized crowd this year was clearly a well focused electoral block with a plan. Signs stating that “November Comes Quickly”, “Voting, Our Weapon of Choice”. New York’s sponsor, tea party365 hosted by new York’s own David Webb had his own assembly of REAL White Coated Doctors all holding up signs stating that “America can’t Afford Obama Care”.

Speakers included Lou Dobbs, KT McFarland, Dr. Manny Alvarez,(fox news)writer, director Stephen Bannon, and others. Lou Dobbs was a surprise as the keynote speaker as Larry Kudlow was originally scheduled to speak. Dobbs gave an energized speech highlighted by his comments that “You are scaring the hell out of them...”(in Washington). Stephen Bannon, director of the movie Generation Zero got a building echoing roar when he stated that the Obama administration wanted socialism for the poor and a twisted torturous capitalism for the middle class.

The crash the tea party wackos were there but in smaller numbers than expected. The tattooed, black hooded, steel rod through the nose crowd had the usual signs calling us racist, homophobes, haters of the poor etc... . One sign stated that you couldn’t pull yourself up by the boot straps if you were too poor to have boots(this while the little darling fiddled with her blackberry and screwed her blue tooth into her right ear). The group was soon drowned out by the tea party members and finally dissipated into the cracks in the sidewalk. The New York City Police were in the most part respectful except for the occasional obese candidate for Mrs. Big Brothers weight loss plan showing open hostility to Tea Party Members and cooing deference to the Socialist.

The Rally went from seven P.M. until approx. ten. Another rally is scheduled in Times Square on July 1, 2010.(permit secured)

Report from the New York City Tea Party
futureofcapitalism.com ^ | Ira Stoll
Posted on April 16, 2010 7:36:56 AM PDT by American Number 181269513

The crowd of more than 1,000 that turned out for a Tax Day Tea Party in New York had the last laugh on the smattering of left-wing counterprotesters accusing them of racism.

“We’re supposed to be a bunch of racists. The guy in charge is an African American,” said KT McFarland, a Nixon, Ford, and Reagan administration official who ran for Senate in New York as a Republican in 2006. She was referring to the Tea Party’s organizer, David Webb.

In case the audience missed the point when Ms. McFarland made it, Mr. Webb, a radio host, reiterated it later during the rally, which lasted from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and took place on 8th Avenue just south of the Farley Post Office where taxpayers were filing their returns. “There are black Republicans and I am one of them,” Mr. Webb announced.

The event did convey other themes besides “we’re not racists.”

One speaker, radio talk show host Mike Church, called for repeal of the 16th Amendment that gives Congress the power to impose an individual income tax.

Ms. McFarland called the risk that “we spend ourselves into oblivion” the biggest national security threat facing America.

“Throw the bums out, throw all the bums out,” she advised.

Another radio host, Andrew Wilkow, spoke about the concept of “the zero liability voter.” When voters who don’t pay any taxes become the majority, “you can say goodbye to your freedom,” he warned, predicting that “51% will always vote themselves a raise on the back of 49%.”

The rally ended on a populist note.

First, the writer and director of the movie Generation Zero, Stephen Bannon, accused the government of providing “socialism for the very poor and the very wealthy and a brutal form of capitalism for everybody else.”

“Our financial elites and the political class have taken care of themselves and led our country to the brink of bankruptcy,” he said. “Leverage is a drug and debt, particularly public debt is like heroin…provided by the pushers on Wall Street and the mules on Capitol Hill.”

Finally, millionaire protectionist and anti-immigration activist Lou Dobbs got up to speak on behalf on “the middle class of this country” and “the working men and women of this country.”

“We are coming together out of love and not hate,” he said. “There is one race in America and it is the American citizen.”

Otherwise, he did not speak about either trade or immigration, and just to mark the point, immediately after he stopped speaking, the event organizer, Mr. Webb, said, “To those who want to be American citizens around the world, we want you here, we welcome you.”

Hundreds seeking change protest against high taxes
SIERRA VISTA Herald/Review ^ | Bill Hess
Posted on April 16, 2010 4:46:24 PM PDT by SandRat

SIERRA VISTA — Anger at the administration of Barack Obama and Congress still is a major issue for local tea party activists. They joined others across the country in a protest on Thursday, the income tax due date.

Thursday, nearly 400 people gathered at Veterans’ Memorial Park and heard speaker after speaker, including some candidates, attack what they see is the federal government’s destruction of the Constitution.

One sign seemed to consolidate the frustration with Congress with the words: “Go green, recycle Congress.”

Another noted the “Axis of Taxes,” with photos of Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, all Democrats.

One speaker said Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, whose 8th Congressional District includes all of Cochise County, dances around issues. “I saw that girl tap dancing, and her feet were not even moving,” Steve Lloyd said.

Vera Hylsky, who helped organize the event, said the congresswoman must be voted out of office because she is like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde.

Hylsky became the chair of the Cochise County Republican Committee on Thursday after Gail Griffin resigned to run for state senator.

Griffin was at the event gathering signatures on her petition to run as a Republican against incumbent Democratic Sen. Manny Alvarez.

The only thing Griffin would say is she decided to run “because we need better representation in the Arizona Senate.” District 25 includes all of Cochise County except Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca.

Lloyd also said GOP U.S. Sen. John McCain dances around issues. And when he is asked something he can’t talk his way out of, “he looks like a deer caught in headlights,” Lloyd said.

Three of four GOP candidates hoping to run against Giffords, spoke. Andy Goss, who is at Fort Polk, La., training soldiers, was not present.

Jesse Kelly said it is time to take up political arms to change D.C.

Jonathan Paton called the health care law a disaster and questioned its constitutionality.

Brian Miller said people have to send a message to Washington, D.C., that the authority rests with voters.

Obama told a fundraiser in Miami that he’s cut taxes, contrary to the claims of protesters.

“You would think they’d be saying thank you,” he said.

“Tea Parties And The Not-So-Silent Majority”
Townhall.com ^ | April 17, 2010 | Austin Hill
Posted on April 17, 2010 4:46:19 AM PDT by Kaslin

SNIPPET: “Speaking about the not-so silent “tea party” activists on the Fox Newschannel last Thursday, Karl Rove observed that “these are people who heretofore have largely been spectators, not participants…these are not activists.” Rove further noted that “they’ve been sitting on the sidelines,” but now they are “motivated over the last fourteen months by what they see happening in Washington.”

Just as Nixon awakened Americans, so has President Obama. But while Nixon became the antithesis of cultural chaos and internal turmoil, President Obama and his party are the source of it.

May those who love America remain awake – and not-so-silent.”

The Tea Party That Obama Missed
Townhall.com ^ | April 16, 2010 | Robert Knight
Posted on April 17, 2010 5:38:27 AM PDT by Kaslin

WASHINGTON – Driving in to the Tea Party rally on April 15, I was listening to CBS radio news, whose correspondent talked about “the 3,000 people” there and their quaint concerns. His tone was, at best, patronizing.

Perhaps he was talking about an earlier Tea Party Express rally at Freedom Plaza, because the one I saw near the Washington Monument across from the White House was far larger than 3,000, or even the 20,000 at the Capitol last November opposing the health care takeover. This crowd, replete with countless signs, Uncle Sam hats and hundreds of Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” flags and T-shirts, was, I estimate, between 30,000 and 40,000 – on a weekday evening.

Too bad President Obama was out of town. He certainly came in for a lot of mentions, not all of them favorable. Okay, I can’t actually recall any favorable mentions.

The CBS reporter’s tone came home to me while listening to speaker and New Media mogul Andrew Breitbart explain how the media have smeared the Tea Party movement. First, they ignored them, he said. Then, they carried stories of alleged racist and anti-gay comments at congressmen who walked across the Capitol grounds with Nancy Pelosi and her giant gavel en route to passing the health care takeover.

Breitbart, who runs several Websites including breitbart.com, BigHollywood.com and BigGovernment.com, has offered $100,000 to anyone with video proof of the alleged remarks. “I started at $10,000, and then I realized – they don’t have it. They don’t have any tape,” he said. So he upped it to $20,000, and then to $100,000.

Breitbart noted that the Democrat lawmakers had marched unnecessarily close to the protesters, and that one of them flashed a defiant ‘V’ sign. He said this was a tactic out of the playbook of radical organizer Saul Alinsky, who counseled followers to provoke reactions that could be used to discredit opponents. But curiously, even with heavy media of all kinds and hundreds of cell phones that take video, no one has come up with proof of the alleged offenses.

Now that this ploy has failed, Breitbart said, the next tactic will be to patronize the movement. Instead of Nazi-like bigots, Tea Party folks will be portrayed as essentially harmless imbeciles – which is how the CBS report sounded.

For anyone needing proof of the media’s scandalously biased coverage, the Media Research Center has released a Special Report, “TV’s Tea Party Travesty: How ABC, CBS and NBC Have Dismissed and Disparaged the Tea Party Movement.” Author Rich Noyes notes that the networks ran only 19 stories on the Tea Party movement in all of 2009, with coverage increasing only after Scott Brown’s surprising U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts in January 2010.

Noyes compares that with 41 network stories devoted to the liberal Million Moms anti-gun march in 2000, and to the Nation of Islam’s 1995 Million Man March, which got 21 stories on just the evening of that march alone—more than the Tea Parties drew in all of 2009. The report chronicles the media’s use of terms such as “nasty” and “fringe” and “racial” and “violent” to portray the Tea Party movement as its influence grew.

Other speakers at the April 15 rally included former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, whose group FreedomWorks sponsored the event; Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX); Steve King (R-IA); Louie Gohmert (R-TX); Dailycaller.com co-founder Tucker Carlson; Rep. Tom Price (R-GA); Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform; Andrew Moylan of the National Taxpayers Union and several others. Country-comedy singer Ray Stevens performed several of his new (and funny) anti-government songs, and former “Saturday Night Live” comedienne Victoria Jackson sang a rousing rendition of her ukulele song “There’s a Communist in the White House.”

Before the evening was over at 9 p.m., the crowd had sung “God Bless America” three times, and several speakers, notably Dick Armey, Gay Hart Gaines of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, and Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), invoked God as the author of America’s unalienable constitutional rights.

The speakers who most fired up the crowd were Bachmann, who described the current regime in Washington as “gangster government,” Breitbart, anti-global warming advocate Lord Christopher Monckton of Great Britain, and Rev. C. L. Bryant of Louisiana, who capped the evening with a powerful call to arms reminiscent in style to Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech.

He would have brought the crowd to its feet except that by then, everybody was standing.
