Gurpreet Singh was working his final shift as a 7-Eleven clerk, before moving on next week to full-time job at a hospital, when he was gunned down during a robbery.
Police say they can't explain why Singh, 35, was shot in the abdomen early Wednesday even after complying with the gunman's instructions to hand over his register's cash in a bag.
"He didn't put up a struggle at all," said homicide Detective Jeff Cowdrey. "He did what he was supposed to do and got shot for it."

VERY WELL SAID! And a very correct interpretation of the Gita.
Very sorry for this man and his family :( We read this stuff day after day. Sad to know that somewhere a family is suffering and will never be the same because of some sub-human.
Absolutely agree with your statement.
“I can tell you why he got shot.
So can most others blogging here ...”
Yep. That’s mighty realist of you. ;-)
Good, Baba said, but his eyes wondered.
Now, no matter what the mullah teaches, there is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft. Do you understand that?
No, Baba jan, I said, desperately wishing I did. I didnt want to disappoint him again.
When you kill a man, you steal a life, Baba said.
You steal his wifes right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someones right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness. Do you see?

If you can, do read the book. Or watch the movie. You'll like it.
Thanks for that. I haven’t read the book (I do want to do that so thanks for the reminder), but see my FR page—I’m a fan of the movie and soundtrack :)
I used to deliver pizza after I retired. I was a small Italian company. We tried, but drivers died. An undercover cop was even killed. We were told to follow Pizza Hut’s policy of no confrontation (wink wink). We decided to ignore the advice and the attacks on us stopped. Pizza Hut and Dominos were still being hit but we were left alone.
Later I drove a cab - we had the same rules. After losing a couple drivers we ignored the rules. Other cab companies were still hit but we were left alone.
It is immoral to send someone into a dangerous situation and not allow them to defend themselves. Why isn’t this obvious to everyone?
If the UN passed a worldwide law saying people could not punch back if punched in the face, who on earth would comply? Not allowing people to defend themselves with guns is NO DIFFERENT.
My apologies then, James. Indeed, you had highlighted exactly the words Krishna used to tell Arjuna he must fight, which puzzled me. But I thought you had misunderstood their context of the words in the Gita, and then misapplied them while trying to apply defenselessness to Hindus. Sorry for mistaking your intent.
Are you Sikh? Just curious.
They’re Muslim. But even there, the violence is by the Sunni minority, and not the Sufi majority.
Sufi Islam is considered an apostasy by the majority of Muslims outside India.
No problem!
Why isnt this obvious to everyone?
Many of the people making the rules are anti-gun and believe allowing armed drivers or clerks will result in Hollywood style shootouts.
They couldn't be further out of contact with reality.
Mahatma Ghandi's methods of peaceful protests only succeed when the oppressor is a basically decent sort who just needs reminded, but those peaceful protests mean nothing to the truly evil among the world.
