Girl Nearly Stomped to Death Over School Rumor

A 14-year-old girl was severely beaten outside a Broward County middle school.

The sheriff's office reports that a 15-year-old boy attacked the girl Wednesday afternoon while she waited for her bus outside Deerfield Beach Middle School. The boy, who attends Deerfield Beach High School, was reportedly angry about comments someone else told him the girl had made.

Deerfield Beach was also the seen where Michael Brewer was attacked by classmates and set on fire late last year.

"My heart goes out to the parents of both of these children. This is another tap on the shoulder that says wake up. We need to start paying attention," Brewer's grandmother, Reenie, said after hearing about the attack. "How many more children are going to be hurt before we start tackling this problem head on?"

Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jachles says the boy punched the girl, knocked her to the ground and then stomped on her repeatedly. A teacher had to pull the boy off her to stop the beating.

The girl was taken by helicopter in critical condition to a Fort Lauderdale hospital. Jachles says authorities are planning to charge the boy with attempted murder.

Why should anyone “feel” for the parents of the idiot thug who stomped on the girl?

I think the reference of sympathy for the parents of 'both' children had to do with girl who was just attacked, and the boy who was set on fire a year ago.

"How many more children are going to be hurt before we start tackling this problem head on?"

I wonder what 'problem' she thinks needs to be 'tackled'?

What we have is a kid that's gone feral. We can't save them all. Try him as an adult for attempted murder and don't let him out until he's too old to hurt anyone again. That kid is just getting started.

If she had been armed, trained, and instilled with the confidence to use a weapon to save her life...

...she'd be fine and the thug would be dead.

Too bad this scenario is considered an anathema to many nowadays.

I would hope the teacher did more than just "pull the boy off her". I hope he/she beat the crap out of him, but I doubt if he/she did.

Wayne Treacy, 15, male, 10/08/94, 1600 NW 33 Street #55, Pompano Beach (IN CUSTODY)

I’d bet my house that this is a single mother home. Can we please put a punitive tax on single mothers and the fathers that abandon their children for all that they cost society?

GIRL, 15, BRUTALLY BEATEN IN SAVAGE ATTACK OUTSIDE SCHOOL
TEEN SUSPECT HAD TO BE PULLED OFF VICTIM BY TEACHER

BSO Case Number: DR10-03-02957
PIO Number: 10-3-21
Date: March 17, 2010
Time: 2:49 p.m. Jurisdiction: Deerfield Beach
Place of Occurrence: 701 SE 6 Avenue, Deerfield Beach

Victim(s):

* Josie Lou Ratley, 15, female, 10/30/94, Deerfield Beach (HOSPITALIZED)

Suspect(s):

* Wayne Treacy, 15, male, 10/08/94, 1600 NW 33 Street #55, Pompano Beach (IN CUSTODY)

Description of Incident:

A 15-year-old girl was brutally attacked outside her school after dismissal on Wednesday.

At 2:49 p.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Deerfield Beach Middle School. They found Josie Lou Ratley, 15, an eighth-grader from the school, unconscious and unresponsive in the bus pickup area on the east side of the building. According to numerous witnesses, 15-year-old Wayne Treacy showed up at the school and attacked Ratley. Treacy punched the defenseless victim in the head to the point where she fell on the ground. The suspect continued beating her by smashing her head on the pavement, kicking her and stomping on her while wearing steel-toed boots. When a teacher saw the commotion, he had to physically remove Treacy to halt his rampage. There was a BSO deputy on campus at the time that immediately responded and took the suspect into custody. Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue treated the critically injured victim and requested BSO Air Rescue to airlift the girl to Broward General Medical Center.

BSO Aggravated Felonies-north detectives and Crime Scene responded. Students and adult witnesses provided an account that corroborated the attack. The suspect, apparently angered over hearsay comments that were allegedly made, came to the middle school intent on harming Ratley.

Treacy was interviewed by detectives and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) in Ft. Lauderdale. Treacy faces one count of premeditated attempted murder. As of this release, Ratley remains in critical condition.

If there were any other witnesses to this crime, they should contact BSO Detective Shane Schroeder at 954-786-4355.

Based on that description, it’s possible that girl won’t survive. Very tragic. :(

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
