Tucson itself barely gave McCain a win, and was trending democrat until late last year. Before the election, it was shocking to hear the lefties say they were making serious inroads.
The rational Americans are on the march here, though, and a reversal is happening. Judge Napolitano, J.D. Hayworth and WSJ Stephen Moore spoke to big crowds. It was a lovefest at Senator McCain's townhall, and Senator Kyl's was well attended. Scott Brown and Tammy Bruce were also warmly welcomed here. Sarah Palin coming on the 26th is bound to get lots of love.
My “I am the mob” t-shirt gets lots of tea party outings, mostly in the company of seasoned citizens. Thank God they are here in number to fill the ranks of the patriotic.
We are a border town though, with lots of La Raza types, and for a while, many ex-pat Californians with their Jerry Brown ideas diluted our conservative base. The downtown redevelopment projects has gone through every liberal pie in the sky scheme and failed. But we have three strong conservative talk radio morning shows and the church parking lots are overflowing every Sunday. I have lots of hope we'll pull ourselves out of the mire.
