Back when I owned Arabs, I had a gelding at the trainer for finishing breaking. He was riding along a country road, and three dogs ran out at the horse through some brush, spooked it, and the trainer was thrown. The horse stepped on his head. He survived, with only a very large cut.

The dogs were not pit bulls. Should they have been put down? Should their breed (hounds) have been destroyed? Should there be laws in place, prohibiting any loose dogs anywhere, including in the woods, where hunting dogs are trained?

If the pit bulls were attacking the horses, why did the girls dismount? Were they bitten? Were the horses?

As far as I can see, this story is a far reach to indict pit bulls. I’ll go back and follow your link, to see if there is more information. But dogs and horses don’t always do well together, unless they are raised together. My mastiff hates them, and cows, and deer.

What angers Janice Walker is the lack of concern on the part of the owners of the pit bulls. “Why are they so heartless.

It is a sad story.
My husband had to order his MPs to shoot a pit bull that was running loose on post just as school was about to be let out. No arguement from the owners; they knew it should have been under control.
Some breeds, without proper training, are volatile.

The Hardin County ASPCA and many concerned county residents have been lobbying the 20-member County Commission for the last four years to create an animal control department. Sadly, the commission is top heavy with lazy halfwits. Along with frequent dog attacks in the unincorporated areas, there is a high incidence of animal cruelty and neglect. The Sheriff's Department deals with some of these cases but they are stretched thin. This tragic incident, however, may spur the citizenry and the government into action.

Thanks for the entertaining thread. I just love it when the ignorant try to argue on this topic.

Are you compiling data on all of these attacks? Or, keeping any records of your own? Seems that some people are demanding statistics that are from a “clean” source, whatever the hell that is. All the sites I find that report attack statistics are being ridiculed by pro-pit bull posters.

Any dogs might run out barking at horses going by. Wonder why the girls didn’t spur the horses into a gallop and get out of there. A dog around the corner from me used to hate it when I rode my bike past their house. I would get to going real fast and raise my legs up so the dog couldn’t bite me. It never was concerned when I rode past on my horse.
