NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Allison Walker's mother, Janice, has not left her daughter's bedside at Children's Hospital since Tuesday.
Allison and her friend were riding on their horses on a rural Hardin County back road when three pit bulls ran out of a front yard and attacked the horses.
"The pit bulls just ran out of the yard and attacked the horses. And the other little girl, she got off of her horse. But when Allison started to get off, her foot hung in the stirrup," said Allison's mother.
The fall left her daughter in a coma. The only thing standing between Allison and the pit bulls after she fell was her friend's dog, a chow, who came along for the ride. Walker is grateful. "The chow stayed between the girls and the horses long enough for them to get out and up out of the way," she said.
Walker has been communicating with her daughter through hand signals. "You know mama loves you, she squeezes my hand. You love mama? and she'll squeeze my hand," she said.
What angers Janice Walker is the lack of concern on the part of the owners of the pit bulls. "Why are they so heartless. They haven't even called me to check and see how my child is," she said.
It's Walker's faith that fuels her hope. "God ain't gonna take her now, she's gonna walk out of here," she said. The owners of the pit bulls, according to Walker, received only a citation for not controlling their animals. They are due in court April 6.
The attack on Walker's daughter has encouraged her to change animal control laws in Hardin County. "I'm gonna try my best to have a law, you know, we may have to make it Allison's Law," she said.
Hey,Granny,,,
In this state all they need to do is get caught on the
land running loose to be shot...
But we had a huge dog start crossing our farm but he was always on his way home and we were a short cut...One day I spotted him in our side yard and got in the car and followed him home....He lived about 3/4 of a mile from us...
He just went into the yard and laid down by his house...I honked my horn until some woman came to the door, and I yelled out the window, "It that your dog"...she said yep, and I told her if I catch him on my property again, he will be a dead dog and I have the legal right to shoot him as I have livestock...rolled up my window and backed out of her driveway...never saw the dog running loose again, but saw him tied up to his dog house...about a month later the dog disappeared...(I didn't do it)..but neighbors that had cows probably did...
By its size it looked like a cross between a great dane and german shepard...could look into my car window while standing on all 4 feet...
I find it unbelievable that supposedly intelligent people would go out of their way to apologize for this breed. Yes, other dog breeds have bitten, and even killed people. But the compelling issue is the percentage of people mauled or killed by this breed relative to other dog breeds, especially given that they represent a very small percent of all dog breeds owned.
I am posting to hopefully clear the air. I am related to Allison, you know the little girl clinging to her life while you all (ok not all) try to say she is at somehow at fault for her situation. I have been to the hospital, I have talked with the utterly shaken 14 year old friend that was there who has recounted every single detail. So maybe this will help stop the finger pointing. Two 14 year old girls were riding their horses, and the other girl Gracie’s dog (a mixed breed Chow) was with them. The dog was in the front and the girls were behind. They had just past the house, when 2 dogs came behind the girls, both dogs bit Gracie’s horse, on its hind legs. As Allison turned her shoulder to see what happened, another dog came from the other side of the house and attacked her horse. At this point both girls were frantic, both horses were rearing. Yes, they were not wearing helmets (this part of Hardin County is extremely rural, I would guarantee that you can’t even buy a helmet for horse riding). The two girls, both terrified were trying to control the horses which were still being attacked by the 3 dogs. Allison actually started to fall and more trying to correct herself than dismount. Gracie dismounted because she too couldn’t control her horse. Allison was slammed backward and dragged a few yards before she was untangled. The horses both ran off into the thicker part of the woods. The chow tried to protect the girls but was attacked (and later died). All the while, the owner is watching from her front step. Gracie says that she was screaming for help but the woman wouldn’t come. Eventually, the woman helped drag Allison from the street to her yard (to make it seem as though the girls were trespassing). She wouldn’t let Gracie use the phone, but eventually she did. The EMT and the Police both arrived and were nearly attacked both the dogs. Yes the dogs that attacked were pit bulls. That part is not relevant. As some have stated, it could have been 3 other dogs that attacked. Regardless of the breed and leash laws, you are failing to see the affect, an individual did not properly restrain her dogs and they attacked 2 horses being ridden by children, one of which is lying in a hospital room not having a clue about any of this. So I ask again...how is this her fault?
Some folks don’t seem to understand that most people out
in the country raise animals for food and a little cash,,,
Ain’t many of the small farms left around here anymore...
First of all Prayers Up for you and yours,,,
Second I am not the person that whined about those kids
not wearing helmets,,,
I don’t think the girls did anything at all wrong,,,
You mite want to go back and read the whole thread,,,
You will then see who posted that,,,
I’m shocked at the way that woman acted,,,
I hope ya’ll get a good lawyer...
GOD Bless...
One of my other son's was out this past week-end and my granddaughter took my dog for a walk around the place...when she came back she said there was a large dead deer back by the stream....son called me later to say that what she saw was a large buck with antlers...
Hunting son was out yesterday to help me with a dead battery in both my car and tractor also plugged up fuel filter in the tractor...we went down to the stream and he sawed off the antlers...large 8 point with a busted back leg and nasty rear end...probably hit by a car and made it only to the stream..
He is already smelling like crap, so I'll be shoveling some quick lime on him to stop the smell....I do get some dead deer on my property and it will not be the first time I had to lime a carcass...I keep a 50 pound back in my shed..
I love men, they come in so handy at times...:O) I have 4 son's that are always willing to help, even when not asked for...and my daughter brought out a fantastic battery charger that is also a compressor and runs on batterys...We used that on the tractor and put a new battery in the car...Its a 2001 Taraus and still had the original battery. My son didn't believe it until he saw it...
LOL,,,Sounds like ya’ got a mess,,,
A deer will always go to water when hurt if they can,,,
Years ago a friend called me for one of those “missions”,,,
Dead cow,,,
He and his neighbor got the idea that they would take a
tractor in there and dig a hole and bury the mess,,,
They got part of the hole dug and then the tractor got stuck,,,
Now they had a stuck tractor next to a dead cow!!!LOL,,,
I sent the neighbor to town for some lime while we winched
the tractor out,,,Yuck!,,,;0)
If ya’ get time mite wanna check post # 105,,,
Just signed up today and made only one post...
Hunting son that got the antlers said the same thing. you guys are so smart...:O) I read her post, she set a couple of idiots straight if they are smart enough to realize it..
As I wrote earlier, a spooked horse will kill itself and you if you stay on....
When my father was in the Mounted Bureau, he also trained some of the new horses....He had one spook and run headlong into the high wood fence and broke his neck...Spooked horses are dangerous and the girls were smart to try and get off..Sorry that one was hurt so bad...
but those poor pit bulls were just doing what they always do, try and kill something...BANG...
Thank you for clearing the air. I think you will see that it is only a small minority faction of pit bull lovers on here that are blaming the little girl. They invariably blame the victim after EVERY pit bull incident. Even when 3 year old children are mauled, they say the pit bull must have been provoked. Prayers for Allison.
LOL,,,I guess when old men talked we both listened when
we were young,,,
Thinking back many were of the WWI generation,,,
Near the same age as I am now!!!...LOL,,,;0)
A few of them hunted from horseback,,,
Every one of them warned me about walking behind the horses.
Even a “gun broke” horse could spook because of something
behind them,,,
From post # 105 and a wild guess I think that’s just what
happened to those girls,,,
Hopefully the owner will have to pay the bills and that
little girl will be OK...
Bump Dat...
You’re arguing with the marginally sane. :)
You refuse to make retractions when new facts come to light.
You’re a fanatic, chum, no doubt about it.
You're a lying sack of excrement.
Any dogs might run out barking at horses going by. Wonder why the girls didn’t spur the horses into a gallop and get out of there. A dog around the corner from me used to hate it when I rode my bike past their house. I would get to going real fast and raise my legs up so the dog couldn’t bite me. It never was concerned when I rode past on my horse.
Suggest you do some research.
What? You saying that the breed wasn’t banned in England? Funny, but a very close family friend from England would disagree.
Idiot! No one is saying she is responsible for out of control dogs.
They are faulting her and rightly so for not wearing a helmet.
Perhaps her mother will accept some responsiblity
and petition for a mandatory helmet law,
they could call it Allison's Law.
