ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, The Hollies and the Stooges will become the latest inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, officials said.
Other inductees this year include individual recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award -- record executive David Geffen and songwriters Jeff Barry, Otis Blackwell, Ellie Greenwich, Barry Mann, Mort Shuman, Jesse Stone and Cynthia Weil.
An induction ceremony is set for Monday night at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.

you’re a knowledgable music guy. Do you see ABBA’s importance and value?
ABBA??????
What, they don’t have a DISCO HOF?
ABBA’s disco records are a fiarly small part of their output.
It’s a momma mia!
The Monkees and The Wonders/Oneders deserve enshrinement before ABBA and they weren’t even real rock bands!
ABBA wrote their own songs. Brilliant pop songs at that.
Jimmy Cliff is one of the greatest reggae singers.
The fact that you have never heard of him says more about you than about the R&R Hall of Fame.
Bobby Goldsboro made brilliant pop records too. But he does not deserve the Hall either!
Im still waiting for them to induct Rush (the band, not the pundit).
As spoken from my own heart. Rush are libertarians or somesuch, but God, do I love them so. Long live our favorite Canuck rock n roll brethren.
I JUST WISH they would come back to Tokyo some day. *sigh*
La Vila Strangiato...Red Barchetta, The Trees, Xanadu....eh..
“You still didnt say what flaws songs like S.O.S and Mamma Mia have.”
Wonderful songs but they are not rock and roll songs.
You would be hardpressed to find someone under 45 who would recognize a Bobby Golsboro song.
Is Paul Simon a rocker? He’s in there.
David Hasselhoff is hugely popular in Europe and Asia too. Does this qualify him for the Hall?
“Theyre hugely popular all over the world and have been for a long time”
Same could be said of Yanni, should he be inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HOF?
Steve Howe, the guitarist from Yes, is one of the greatest progressive guitarists in the world, and was named the top guitarist for several years running. In addition to Yes, he also founded Asia, and has had a successful solo career. His bandmate Rick Wakeman is one of the very best keyboardists in all of Rock and Roll history, and also played some key parts of very successful songs by other artists, including the piano on Steven's ‘Morning is Broken’, and the mellotron on Bowie's ‘Space Oddity’. Their bandmate Chris Squire is one of the greatest rock and roll bass players ever, up there with John Entwistle. I could go on and on, but they haven't been nominated or inducted. Go figure.
What? No Ted Nugent??? Again? Im SHOCKED!!!
F00k yeah!!! Now you’re doin’ the Wango! Love Ted to death. I’ve got a campaign going to ask him to do a new theme for The Conservative Funhouse podcast.
Children behave!
The best act not in the Rock hall of fame is Tommy James and the Shondells. Bar none.
Hard to believe now but Hanky Panky broke through the censorship ban; Mony Mony one of the alltime best rock dance songs, if not the best; Dragging the Line, the great guitar, etc.
His songs tracked a generation, starting with little make out songs, falling in love, getting drunk, doing drugs, going to work.
Second-biggest American band of the 1960s, second only to the Beachboys.
Brilliant? Hardly. Sacharrin putrescence is more accurate.
I’m not denying that ABBA has been a hugely successful act. I’m arguing that they do not qualify as a Rock act.
ABBA are respected critically and by their peers. David Hasselhoff is not. Nor has Hasselhofff ever written anything close to an enduring song.
