I have two large ones on my land. Dont know what kind they are, they are cool and totally silent while flying around. Other birds freak out when they are on the move.

A large owl landed on a tree near the sliding door to my deck. The owl stared at me as I looked at it through the glass door. I am not sure about its size because it was dark. As soon as I opened the door, the owl flew away. I was concerned because my dog (American cocker about 30 lbs.) was running in my fenced yard. My wife was not concerned but I felt that perhaps the owl might attack my dog.

The land I used to own here in WA had spotted owls and
1 horned owl. They compete with the coyotes for the mice
rabbits cats and whatnot. I could watch them swoop from
the living room windows. Magnificent animals.
