You know when I was in high school way back in the good ole days, we had a Jr-Sr Banquet. The junior class raised money to pay for the seniors to go to it. Then it was the seniors turn to shine for one last time. Of course, we never had very expensive tastes way back then. I still have my evening dress from the early 1960’s. It is a beautiful dress which was worn by myself, 2 cousins, and a niece. It was on so expensive back then and cost a whole $35. We did not have to have dates. It was just a way to say farewell to our high school years. We all had a blast talking to each other and the teachers who came.

Nowadays, kids have to have formals costing hundreds of dollars, fancy meals before and after, and of course the fancy cars to get them there. I think we had a much better time than these kids today. Each tries to outdo the other girl and frankly, it has gotten rediculous.

I agree with you. I think something more related to reality would be more enjoyable for the students and less likely to turn out badly. The expectations for proms and the typical behavior are completely out of line with what schools should be involved with.
