Liberals, in the 70’s played on the compassion and empathy of our Christian culture's impulse. They would hold up a “victim” of sexism, racism, poverty, etc. and present a false story. They used the compassion of our culture for manipulation - as a weapon for the enslavement of Americans to socialism and humanistic injustice.
In time, they went a long way to killing off the impulse of compassion in our society because it was a political game of radicals to create injustice and end constitutional freedom. Like Huckster, they played on compassion for criminals in order to release them on the pubic to create more innocent victims. So Americans cynically rejected these false calls for compassion and many lost their impulse of compassion along the way. But not all.
