I haven’t been able to figure out why people haven’t done this .... or turned it off so I looked it up and found an article saying to turn the ignition to ACC so you still have power steering and brakes.

I would think it would be better to blow your engine than to crash - possibly crashing into others. The engines in those probably just sound like a mosquito anyway when they are over-revving.
Well, if you want to stop forward movement, that’s what you need to do.
