Calling iPhone Experts -- help! (vanity)
annoyed self | 3/7/10 | An American Mother

Posted on 03/07/2010 12:23:22 PM PST by AnAmericanMother

OK, I got an iPhone back in November, and have slowly learned how to use it.

I sync it periodically via iTunes on my computer, as instructed.

Well, lo and behold, at some point it deleted all my calendar entries for 2009. I do not know how this happened, but assume it occurred while syncing it.

Anybody got any ideas as to how this happened? It annoys me because I do refer back to calendar entries in the past.

All help and suggestions appreciated.

If the suggestions need to be helpful, that's going to greatly reduce the number of replies.

Use one of these instead and save old years under mattress.

There is a default preference to not sync calendar entries older than 3 months. You can change it and get them back.

Also, if your using iCal it has a preference setting for when to delete past events. Look in Preferences /advanced

Thanks.

I don't see that option readily available, either on the iPhone or on iTunes.

We are on a PC, therefore not using iCal. Where exactly is that option, or do I need to turn on synching before that option is available?

( . . . as you might guess, I'm being told what to ask by my husband. I don't understand ANY of this stuff!!!)

I did that for 35 years! I was trying to reduce the clutter in my file cabinet (do you have any idea how much space 35 years' worth of desk and briefcase calendars takes up?)

And, somehow, mine were never THAT entertaining.

But if I can't figure out why this calendar erased itself, it's back to the old method.

More information obtained:

Microsoft Outlook has all the old info . . . no signal on the by-the-month calendar to let you know there's an entry on that date, but if you check day by day the entries are all there.

Just need to know how to turn off the 3-month "wipe" on display.

Appreciate any help. Still trying.

Any chance that you have more than one email profile under Outlook?

You’ll have to ask my grandchildren. Isn’t it a tad late to worry about ‘09 now?

No, I keep the previous year so I have a record of work assignments, the dogs' and the kids' vaccination records, when various appointments occurred, dates of hunting tests, cowboy shoots, etc. etc. I refer back to them quite a bit. Not so often as weekly, but often enough to make it worthwhile.

Thanks to you all for your good advice, it set us on the right path. My dear husband appears to have figured it out.

You have to actually set up to sync and THEN go into settings and preferences -- one UNchecks the box to have it continue to sync appointments older than 3 months.

Glad it’s figured out.

Grandsons were here earlier and the younger one, with his I-phone, asked what my wireless code was. I turned around and called his brother.
