I would love to be included in things African-American. But it is always accompanied by such bristling hostility towards me and my family that I just bypass it. Who needs dirt dumped on your head because of your race?
Having grown up in rural Wisconsin I had no idea what racism was until I went off to college (in 1969). At college I discovered that I was hated by some for the white color of my skin. It was an eye opener for a naive young Lutheran who just thought people were people.
