Huh 85, well it took a really long time to do it.
So....if he didn’t smoke he’d have made it to age 86?
I guess he wanted to live forever.
Is this from the Onion? How long did he expect to live? Maybe he had Alzheimers and thought he was 36? RIP
Average life span in the U.S.A. and probably in the U.K. for men is age 78 give or take a year or two. This is taking in consideration all life style health risks....
Silly idea that we will all live until age 100.
RIP.
3 of my grandparents smoked or chewed into their 90’s. My 4th grandparent died before he was 50 and didn’t smoke. I don’t smoke and don’t know what my future holds.
Cut down in the prime of his life...at 85.
If he hadn’t smoked, he might have lived another.......2 or 3 years....
I actually heard a conversation once, of a middle aged man confronted by a “healthy lifestyle” true believer.
After hearing his pitch for copious exercise, self-denial, unpleasant food and not enough of it, teetotalism, and even to refrain from too much sex, the middle aged man bluntly informed the health nut of the following:
“The men and women from both sides of my family eat what they want, drink what they want, smoke or don’t, never exercise unless they are working, and we all either get killed young of accidents or gunfire, or only die after the age of 100.”
And the health nut enthusiastically chirped in that if they had made themselves miserable with mortification of the flesh their entire lives, they might have lived another five years!
The light was on, but nobody was home.
I think the health nut died while jogging, and the middle aged guy is now in his 70s. His best advice was “Avoid doctors unless you have broken something.”
Wow! So maybe if I take-up smoking again I’ll make it to age 85!!!
one word: Polonium
Not only did smoking cut him down in the prime of life, it had severely diminished his sex life.
