Doing geneology research and came upon this treasure. Gas,clothing and food rationing are well understood - but travel restrictions and other civil compliance may not be so well known. Metal, rubber and paper were collected & recycled as well as clothing, rags and books.

Speed reading helps;) But there are so many gems that sadly point out how the Government built on the necessary and voluntary WWII controls to establish Socialist programs.

i.e.
1942 Beccles & Bungay 27 Jun SOME EAST ANGLIAN VILLAGES to be taken over for army exercises. All villagers and farmers to leave by 20 July. The larger of the two battlefields is of 18,000 acres, displacing 800 people. The situation was explained By Lieut Gen Anderson, GOC Eastern Command. “This is the most unpleasant task of my army career”.
