Why Michael J. Fox & Wm. Shatner to Showcase "Canadians" In Closing Ceremonies?
February 28, 2010

I notice how effusively American-Canadians speak of their native country. I have no problem with this. But isn't there some incongruity when they are showcased in the Vancouver Olympics having emigrated from Canada?

Micheal J Fox, the same Micheal J Fox who cravenly exploited his disease for nasty anti-Republican political purposes, back in the 2006 elections? After that pathetic display, I took to changing the channel whenever I saw any movie of his playing.

Maybe for the same reasons that the Canadian hockey players-who mostly live, and earn their living in the U.S.- were so eager to win the gold for their country?

I agree.

If it was so great back home, why live in the US?

Money of course. And maybe, just maybe, it might be nicer to live here?

US Hockey team players Paul Statsny, Zach Parise and Ryan Malone’s fathers were former canadian hockey players who later became US citizens.

Ray Bourque’s son (yes, the NHL Canadian great) played for the gold winning American team World Jr’s IN Canada last Dec 26, which shocked canada.

Scott Niedermayer’s kids were born in America, so’s Gretzky’s, icnluding Canadian coach Mike Babcock. It doesn’t necc say that their loyalties are with canada as per my examples.

Au contraire, mon ami.

I'd be willing to bet that their loyalties were 100% Canadian.

Once they are famous enough to get rich, the quickly leave Canada to avoid the high taxes that come with Socialized Medicine and all the other social programs. The funny thing is, as soon as they become American citizens they start lobbying for that crap here.

I was at the closing ceremonies. I thought it odd Shatner and Michael J. Fox said what they did. Shatner spouting off on national healthcare and Fox saying he always wears his Canadian hockey jersey. Kinda spitting in the eye of the USA team that played their guts out in a fantastic overtime game. Neil Young was fantastic though. Just entertained. Proving my favourite quote...”shut up and play”...wish Springsteen would take that advice.

Needs to be said again, so I did.

I worked for a Canadian company for a couple of years. The goal of every single person in that company was to, somehow, find a way to get a work permit and move to the US. They hated the health care system and the high taxation.

Fortunately, for us, the best and the brightest leave Canada for the US, while Mexico and the rest of Central America sends us their indigents.

Too bad the Canadians couldn’t keep Michael J. Fox. If he wants to be a Canadian, then he has no business campaigning in US elections.

Well at least Shatner joked about the Canadian health care system, kinda telling the USA not to end of going the Canadian way.

Amazing, when I had watched the group from Russia sing its national, since I am old enough to remember, I thought when it was used as the old national anthem for the USSR, I was going down memory lane.
