When faced with death, many people trample over others. Picture this: The guy didn't really love his wife(maybe), maybe it was an arranged marriage, who knows. Faced with dying soon, and not functioning at a very coherent level anyway, he throws caution, and decency, to the winds.

I would hope I would behave better under those conditions, but who knows.
