I agree that patients come first. What do you suggest that the employee do if he or she is snowed in? In my subdivision we had three feet of snow on the ground and no snowplows in sight. I missed two days of work because we could not get out of the subdivision. I stayed home and lost wages for the days I missed. What should I have done? There was no getting out of my neighborhood.

OK I can’t help myself.

THREE lousy feet of snow and your life is put on hold?

Get the shovel out.

We had 46 feet in 3.5 months last winter (at sea level) and no work or school was missed. (Alaska)

You guys need to buck up.

We knew for a few days that this storm was coming and that it would be major. Medical personnel have got to know how to make arrangements. If they live far away from the hospital, they can get to the hospital or the home of a friend who lives nearby a day or two early to be there when needed. There are accommodations on the premises, beds, food, showers, etc. I’ve never known a doctor or nurse who didn’t report, no matter what it took.

Call the hospital...They are willing to send an Ambulance to get staff. Besides it is not impossible to drive through snow, or the police and emergency vehicles would also be stuck...great time to rob a bank. I am not being a smart a$$, I have driven through deep snow many times. The point I tried to make is that the hospital did not shut down, others found ways to work. The work is too vital to just stop. Belive me if your job is in critical care...the hospital will send you help, just be prepared to stay for a long shift. Once in Kansas I was snowed in while at work and spent 2 days in house providing care. Thanks.
