I found this video VERY interesting. It now becomes apparent that despite what SeaWorld says the trainer DID get into the water with the Orca. They have denied this happened. And they claim it is against policy. She is smiling widely.
The video ends seconds before he grabs her.
Some news sources have a still of the trainer in the water with the killer whale ... but now the video.
I know many will not agree with me, but I think it is barbaric to treat animals like this.

Listening to that tinny sounding speaker with the droning talk would drive any creature crazy.
Better written than most news stories I have read about the incident. L.A. Times said she was grabbed “by the shoulder.”
I have seen the show and it's fantastic. Sea-World (according to Jack Hanna) spent $60 million on training, caring and researching Killer Whales. It seems to me they are better cared for than many people.
Bingo. I'm always surprised when people are surprised that a wild animal acts like a wild animal. The anthropomorphizing of animals that's been going on for 50 years has done a number on us. Too many people assign human feelings, thought processes and motivations to animals when trying to understand their behavior. They shouldn't.
Whales: 3
Trainers: 0
That is because they have an agenda. The trainer obviously knew the danger. She loved those animals and certainly wouldn't want anything to happen to them according to her sister.
PETA is all over this because they see FREE publicity at the expense of the woman who died doing what she loved.
Completely agree. Even domesticated animals act unpredictably sometimes.
Yet, the trainers still do it just like astronauts who die doing what they love, learning, teaching, exploring, etc.
What a dull, boring world we would have without people like them.
It’s an animal. It has two motivations: feed and reproduce. It doesn’t understand the concept of freedom. It doesn’t care if George Bush is president or if it’s Barack 0bama. It is not aware of such things. If left in the wild, it will pursue one of it’s two motivations by either fighting with other whales so it can mate, or tearing other sea animals into little bits so it can eat. Eventually, it will either become infirm and die, alone, or it will be torn to pieces by a pack of dolphins that don’t want it around their young because they know that it will try to eat them.
If you disagree with animal captivity, don’t try to label it as something that it isn’t. The animal world is barbaric. You’re right, they don’t build aquariums and keep other animals in them. They kill them and eat them.
Yeah, team!
The US Human Society has lead the move to ban Orcas from theme parks, not PETA. I realize PETA does too.
Meant US Humane Society.
USHS = PETA in nice suits.
I have never thought of the Humane Society as being the raging nut cases like PETA.
Yeah, well there is three less of them now cause apparently they didn't understand the first half of the name of the critters called "Killer" Whales...
US Humane Society
Racketeering Lawsuit Fingers Humane Society of the United States
Multi-Million Dollar Animal Rights Group Accused Of Corruption; Lawsuit Available At HumaneWatch
Despite the words humane society on its letterhead, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not affiliated with your local animal shelter. Despite the omnipresent dogs and cats in its fundraising materials, its not an organization that runs spay/neuter programs or takes in stray, neglected, and abused pets. And despite the common image of animal protection agencies as cash-strapped organizations dedicated to animal welfare, HSUS has become the wealthiest animal rights organization on earth.
HSUS is big, rich, and powerful, a humane society in name only. And while most local animal shelters are under-funded and unsung, HSUS has accumulated $113 million in assets and built a recognizable brand by capitalizing on the confusion its very name provokes. This misdirection results in an irony of which most animal lovers are unaware: HSUS raises enough money to finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it doesnt operate a single one anywhere.
Instead, HSUS spends millions on programs that seek to economically cripple meat and dairy producers; eliminate the use of animals in biomedical research labs; phase out pet breeding, zoos, and circus animal acts; and demonize hunters as crazed lunatics. HSUS spends $2 million each year on travel expenses alone, just keeping its multi-national agenda going.

I was interested to learn HSUS really didn’t care if all cats and dogs died out.
Very interesting. Thanks for that!
Apparently. :=)
